Monthly Report – September 2024

Sewer District # 1
The Rensselaer County Legislature held a Public Hearing at the September 10, 2024 Regular meeting regarding an anticipated sewer rent increase planned for 2025.

As the rates have not been raised since 2017, the Sewer Board finds it necessary to raise rates in order to balance the sewer budget.
Sewer rents will increase from $ 3.82 per 1000 gallons to $ 4.20 for public metered properties, with a minimum charge of $ 51.10 per quarter.
Private non-metered properties will increase from $ 268.84 to $ 295.72 annually.
This is equivalent to a 10% rate increase.
Any questions and concerns may be directed to the Clerk’s office at 518 270-2721.

Health:
The legislature unanimously approved several lead related resolutions and accepted a $ 3,636,000 five-year grant from the NYS Department of Health. This award will establish a Lead Rental Registry. In partnership with the City of Troy, this registry will collect data to identify applicable dwellings, collect statewide inspection and compliance data and provide flexibility to incorporate existing established programs to remediate lead hazards. To accomplish these goals, three new grant funded positions will be created in 2024 and 2025.  The importance of lead removal in housing cannot be emphasized enough.
