Monthly Report – December 2024
2025 Budget – The Minority Legislators showed unanimous support in passing the 2025 Budget. This budget passed by 15-2 vote, two legislators were absent for the vote and two from the republican caucus refused to support the budget, (Maloney and Patire). They communicated their lack of support to be solely based on opposition to fund “The Bridge Project”. This project entails the complete renovation of the Quackenbush Building in Downtown Troy; a building owned by Rensselaer County. It will become the cornerstone to further economic and regional opportunity for many high-tech start-ups and budding entrepreneurs. The minority legislators, along with enough majority members, could see the value of economic opportunity for the County and Capital Region to pass the budget including “The Bridge Project.” An opportunity of this magnitude is much too important to reject. Such a project has the ability to positively change the financial trajectory in Rensselaer County for generations to come.
It is in attracting and supporting business opportunities, both large and small, that we stimulate job creation and provide the economic stability that our residents expect and deserve. Introducing such initiatives will alleviate the financial pressure on taxpayers while enriching vigor and elevating the quality of life in Rensselaer County.
Along with the advantages of economic development our educational and cultural institutions deserve recognition and support. Rensselaer County is home to a diverse array of academic and artistic organizations, all of which contribute to the cultural richness and educational advancement of our community. We must continue to partner, champion, and support these institutions to make Rensselaer County an even more attractive place to live and prosper.
The passing of the 2025 Rensselaer County Budget ensures that we are continuing to protect our residents from increased taxes, provide the level of excellence in services, and to improve and expand our infrastructure.
We are proud to be part of a legislature that is committed to good governance for the sake of a better Rensselaer County.
