Monthly Report – November 2023
2024 Budget – The Minority’s office commitment to prudent fiscal policies and responsible governance aligns with the goals of reducing the burden on local taxpayers while maintaining essential services for the families and businesses of our community.
We fully recognize the positive financial developments in Rensselaer County. The windfall revenues generated from various sources, such as sales tax, mortgage recording tax, and federal stimulus received from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to aid public health and economic recovery, have substantially improved the County’s financial outlook. These unexpected financial resources have allowed the County to bolster efforts to support our constituents and invest in our community’s well-being.
These windfall revenues provide a unique opportunity to make lasting improvements to our community and ensure that Rensselaer County remains a wonderful place to call home.
Shop Local – Every year the Minority office files a resolution in support of “December is Shop Local Month” in Rensselaer County to encourage everyone to shop local and keep the sales tax revenue in Rensselaer County. Local vendors are the backbone of our community and depend on our support to remain in business. As listed in the 2024 Rensselaer County budget, the sales tax revenue has increased close to $ 122 million for 2022. A “win win” for all! So, please continue to support our local vendors!
Youth – “Coats for Kids Campaign” – The annual Golf Fundraiser at the Troy Country Club was once again a great success and raised $ 20,000. The legislature passed a resolution to purchase 1000 coats from B. Lodge in Albany, which will be distributed through several agencies to needy children. A big ‘Thank You’ goes to B. Lodge for their continued support of Rensselaer County youth. A County wide toy drive is also in progress for the duration of the month of November and December. Unwrapped toys may be dropped off at all County buildings and several businesses locations.
