Monthly Report – December 2023

Social Services – The December meeting included renewals for Social Services programs with local agencies to provide support services ranging from family assistance, foster care, domestic violence, trauma assessment, secure and non-secure juvenile detention, as well as respite services and others.

Van Rensselaer Manor – The Legislature unanimously approved contract renewals to support the daily operation of the Manor. As customary each year, legislators provided personal funds

towards the donation of a holiday gift to the Manor. A presentation of the gift will be held on December 14.

Local Laws – The Legislature also unanimously approved three different Local Laws:

One – Establishing a county wide ‘Drug Dealer Registry’ for individuals convicted of illegal drug sales.

Two and three – Amending a Local Law to increase the income threshold to $ 40,000 for certain individuals over 65, as well as certain individuals with disabilities by providing a 50% exemption from real property tax levied by Rensselaer County.

Assembly Bill A.8075 – The opioid crisis continues to increase daily and opioid related deaths have increased dramatically. Assembly Bill A.8075 relates to the availability of opioid antagonists, such as Naloxone, and requires the Department of Health to make available any formulation and dosage of opioid antagonists approved by the Food & Drug Administration. The Legislature unanimously voted to support P/503/23 and urges Governor Hochul to sign the passage of this bill.
