Monthly Report – February 2025

S.A. Dunn Landfill – The Legislature unanimously approved a resolution (P/63/25) urging the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and Governor Hochul to revisit and reverse the recent approval of the operating permit for the landfill. Over the past years several resolutions opposing the renewal of the landfill’s operating permit have been adopted by the legislature to no avail. The community’s concern remains for long term health risks. Numerous complaints from residents, community organizations and schools have been insufficiently addressed. The legislature is urging the DEC and the Governor to seriously re-evaluate their decision to allow the operation if the S.A. Dunn Landfill.

Honorable Thomas Walsh – With heavy hearts the legislature adjourned the February 11 meeting in memory of one of their own, the Honorable Legislator Thomas Walsh.  A dedicated public servant and veteran Tom served on the Judiciary & Public Safety and the Veterans &Youth committees. As Chairman of the Veterans Committee, Tom was the driving force in creating the “Hall of Heroes” to honor the sacrifices of veterans and service members. A presentation of this resolution will be presented to the family at a future date.
