JOHN J. KING
1920-1959
FAMILY HISTORY:
John J. King was born on March 22, 1920 in Troy, New York to Herbert and Jennie (Green) King. He was the brother of Jenny, Eva, Irene, Herbert and Eugene.
EDUCATION:
John resided in Troy, New York with his family and received his education through the Troy Public School system.
HISTORY:
On May 22, 1940, John enlisted in the United States Army in Albany, New York. He was assigned to the 36th Infantry Division as a rifleman, and participated in many battles in the Mediterranean and European Theater Campaigns. John was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class on August 28, 1945 from the United States Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey. For his service, John was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Arrowhead, the American Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Expert Marksmanship Badge with M-1 Rifle Bar and Honorable Service Lapel Button.
PERSONAL:
On November 14, 1945, John married his wife, Josephine Cancilla. Together they had three loving daughters: Joanne, Joyce and Jackelyn, and grandchildren: Trisha, Christine, Mark, Bill, Steven, Karin, Colleen and Brian.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
John worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:
In his spare time, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Troy, New York and an active member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Sadly, on September 22, 1959, John passed away.
Honor A Deceased Veteran Ceremony will be held in the Legislative Chambers of the Rensselaer County Legislature.

The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.
We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
