Mary Frances Sabo was elected to the Rensselaer County legislature to represent District 2, (towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush and Poestenkill) on November 5, 2025. She is the first democrat in 20 years to be elected to this role. Mary Frances serves on the Public Works and the Tourism committees.
Mary Frances is retired from after serving New York State as an attorney for nearly 24 years. She spent most of her career at the New York State Insurance Department and Department of Financial Services where she focused on expanding health coverage to the uninsured and then at the New York State Department of Transportation. At DOT she worked in a variety of areas, including land use and motor carrier safety. She graduated from Dartmouth College and George Washington University School of Law.
Mary Frances is serving her second term on the North Greenbush town board. Mary Frances has had many accomplishments on the town board including sponsoring a resolution that registered the town as a New York State Climate Smart Community and securing funding for climate initiatives that would help the town prepare for severe weather events and advocating for and securing pedestrian improvements on State Route 66.
Mary Frances is active in her community. She formerly served as a Trustee of the North Greenbush library and as a board member of CEO, a local community action agency. She currently volunteers as part of a team assisting an Afghan refugee family settle in the Albany area and uses her expertise on the advisory committee for the Capital District Transportation Committee’s Vision Zero Advisory Committee. She served as a girl scout leader and president of the Bell Top PTO.
Mary Frances is dedicated to making Rensselaer County a wonderful place to live, work and visit. She is committed to promoting economic development that provides well-paying jobs and benefits all taxpayers. She will work to put the county on the path to energy efficiency and climate resilience.
