Richard E. Santspree
1950-2022
FAMILY HISTORY:
Richard E Santspree was born on July 28, 1950 in Troy, New York. He was the son of Robert and June (Seguin) Santspree, and the brother of Roberta, Donald, Robert, Cynthia, Michael and the late Paula.
EDUCATION:
Richard grew up in Cohoes, New York and received his education through the Cohoes City School District.
HISTORY:
On October 30, 1967, Richard enlisted in the United States Army in Albany, New York and served during the Vietnam War. He completed and received his GED in 1970 while serving. Richard was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class on October 21, 1970. For his honorable service, he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Expert M16 and Sharpshooter M14.
PERSONAL:
On April 3, 1971, Richard married his wife, Christine (Hogan) at St. Rita’s Church in Cohoes, New York. Together they had three loving children: Kimberly, Richard and Thomas; four grandchildren: Kyle, Kayeleigh, Violet and Brayden; and several nieces and nephews.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Richard worked for GE in Schenectady, New York as a machinist for 40 years until he retired on August 1, 2010.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:
Richard was an active member of the community and loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays and traveling for family vacations. He was a member of the Cohoes Rod & Gun Club, American Legion Ruane Post 476, Cohoes Moose Club and the Cohoes-Waterford Elks Lodge #1317. For many years, Richard volunteered at the St. Rita’s Church annual bazaar and the Cohoes Rod & Gun Club’s annual kids fishing contest at Van Schaick Island Pond. He enjoyed participating in bowling and dart & horseshoe leagues over the years.
Sadly, on June 28, 2022, Richard passed away.
Honor A Deceased Veteran Ceremony will be held in the Legislative Chambers of the Rensselaer County Legislature.

The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.
We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
