Thomas M. Walsh, Sr.
1935-2024

FAMILY HISTORY:
Thomas M. Walsh, Sr. was born on November 6, 1935 in Troy, New York. He was the son of the late Myles Walsh and Irene (King) Hegarty, and brother to Arlene, and the late Annina.

EDUCATION:
Tom grew up in Troy, New York and received his education through Troy High School, and went on to continue his education with the Command and General Staff College, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  Tom later resided in Wynantskill and Brunswick, New York.

HISTORY:
In 1953, Tom enlisted with the United States Army National Guard, where he was assigned to the 105th Medical Command, 27th Infantry Division. Tom earned numerous commendations including the New York State Long and Faithful Service Award, NYS Recruiting Medal, NYS Military Commendation Medal, NYS Aid to Civil Authority Medal, NYS Humane Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and two Meritorious Service Medals, prestigiously retiring with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel.

PERSONAL:
Tom married his beloved wife, Diane E. (Gailey) Walsh on September 8, 1957. Together they had five children: Kathleen, Thomas, Michael, Jennifer, and Mary; and ten grandchildren; Jenét, Tiana, Mathew, Patrick, Shannon, Melissa, Skyler, Ethan, Hunter, and Austin; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
After his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army National Guard on March 11, 1981, Tom was employed by Watervliet Arsenal and retired as Chief of Manufacturing where he oversaw 1300 employees and was the National Vice President of the Federal Managers Association, Wells Communications, and Rensselaer County Jail in the Maintenance Department.  Tom served as the Brunswick Town Supervisor before being elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature, where he served his constituents in Legislative District No. 3 (Towns of Brunswick, Schaghticoke and Pittstown), with pride for 5 terms.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:
Tom was instrumental in the Medal of Honor Memorial called the “Hall of Heroes”.  He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus, Council 10990, Elks Club, VFW, and loved going to Bolton Landing in the Summer and Florida in the winter.

Sadly, on December 25, 2024, Tom passed away and was laid to rest at Eagle Mills Cemetery with Military Honors.

The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.

We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
