March 2023 Honor A Deceased Veteran-Robert F. Vogt

Robert F. Vogt
1936-2004

FAMILY HISTORY:
Robert F. Vogt was born on July 10, 1936 in Troy, NY to William and Helen (Knapp) Vogt. He was the brother of William Vogt who served in the U.S. Air Force.

EDUCATION:
Robert was born, raised and lived in Troy, New York for most of his life, and attended Catholic Central High School, Lansingburgh High School and LaSalle Institute.

HISTORY:
On August 4, 1953, Robert enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in Albany, New York, and then headed to the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina where he received his basic training. After completing basic training, Robert attended Airman School (Class P) at Marine Air Detachment, Jacksonville, Florida, and then went on to receive his flight equipment course at the Naval Air Technical Training Unit in Lakehurst, New Jersey. From there, Robert went on to serve as a Basic Flight Equipmentman. Robert was honorably discharged with the rank of Private on November 15, 1956 from the United States Marine Corps, and for his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal.

PERSONAL:
On April 6, 1958, Robert married his wife Ann Cassino at St. Peter’s Church in Troy, New York. Together they had four loving children: Robert, Timothy, Gary (deceased) and Patricia, and 14 grandchildren.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Robert worked for many years at Bendix Corp. in Green Island, New York as a machine operator in the friction materials division until he had to retire in 1985. He continued to work at HUDMO Valley Federal Credit Union, where he previously served as President, a member of the Board of Directors and later as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee, a position that he held until his passing.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:
He was a retired member of the United Auto Workers Local #1508, where he served for several years as the Recording Secretary, a long-time member of the Friends of 112th Street and the American Legion Post #927 in Green Island, a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, and a former Boy Scouts of America Leader for Pack 58. During his free time, Robert enjoyed large jigsaw puzzles, traveling and spending time with his family.

Sadly, on January 28, 2004 Robert passed away.

The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.

We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
