David Michael Bacon
1946 – 1969
FAMILY HISTORY:
David Michael Bacon was born on July 28, 1946 in Troy, New York. He was the son of the late Floyd Earl and Frances (Fox) Bacon, brother to: Ann, William and Donald; and uncle to: Kimberly Bacon
EDUCATION/HISTORY:
David attended school at St. Augustine’s in the Lansingburgh school district throughout his school years
On May 19, 1964 he enlisted in United States Navy in Albany, New York. David progressed on to the (RTC) Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, in the U.S. Navy’s only enlisted boot camp. The intensive 9-week program transforms civilians into disciplined Sailors through rigorous physical training, seamanship, and mental conditioning
During his enlistment, David demonstrated the core values of the Navy – Honor, Courage, and Commitment – standing watch to protect our nation and ensuring the safety of his fellow citizens
After (RTC), David was assigned to Naval Support Activity Danang in the United States Navy logistics support organization located in Danang, South Vietnam, active from March 1966 to September 1966 on the USS HULL
Troops delivered supplies to the units in the field while they ran port operations. Soon, the fleet dispatched Naval Beach Group One Cargo Handling Battalions 1 and 2, Nucleus Port Crew, Mine Force, Service Force, Underwater Demolition Team, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to Danang.
During this time the Navy took charge of the offloading, storage and delivery of supplies common to all the allied forces. Additional responsibilities included harbor defense and the transshipment of cargo to the smaller ports I the region
David was honorably discharged on July 18, 1967, earning the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign medal and the National defense Service Medal.
David’s service to the United States Navy represents a chapter of selflessness, discipline, and duty that will forever be remembered and cherished by his family, his friends, and a grateful nation
David gained employment through the Behr Manning in Watervliet, New York, where sadly his life was taken from him on his way to work
Though he was taken from us on April 10, 1969, his legacy as a defender of freedom remains unblemished, and his name is forever etched into the proud history of American veterans. On this day, we officially recognize and honor him
Special sessions may also be convened at the request of the Chairperson.
The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.
We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
