February 2022 Honor A Deceased Veteran – Richard P. Jansson
February 14 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
RICHARD PAUL JANSSON
Richard Paul Jansson was born on July 23, 1936 in Yonkers, New York to the late Sven and Violet Jansson. He was the brother of Wesley, Edith, David, and the late Ernest, Florence and William, and half-brother to Mary.
Richard grew up in Averill Park, New York and attended Averill Park High School from 1950-1953.
Richard enlisted in the United States Navy on August 23, 1954 in Albany, New York. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Antietam CVS-36 and went on to serve in the United States Naval Reserves until August 22, 1962.
When Richard was a young man, he met the love of his life, Joan Ogden, and on May 19, 1956 they got married. They were married for over 63 loving years until sadly Joan passed away in 2019. They will both be dearly missed by their daughters Brenda and Deborah; grandchildren Terrence, Ricky, Amber and Brandon; and great-grandchildren Brittney, Ricky, Jr., Julian, Jennifer, Bentley, Jesse, Riley and Erica.
For many years, Richard worked as a firefighter for Electric Boat.
Richard liked skeet shooting, hunting, fishing and bowling. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the Colchester Senior Center playing cards and Pinnacle. He also drove as a school bus driver for handicapped children in retirement. Above all, Richard loved spending time with his family and friends.
Sadly, on January 22, 2020 Richard passed away.
Special sessions may also be convened at the request of the Chairman.
The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.
We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
At the request of local interpreters, if an interpreter is needed at any meeting in the Legislature they require 2 weeks advance notice. Thank you for your cooperation.
