DONALD JOHN KEELER
Donald John Keeler was born on April 29, 1921 in Troy, New York to the late Wilbert and Alice (Teal) Keeler. He was the brother of Holman and Thelma.
He attended schools in the Troy school district growing up.
Donald enlisted in the United States Navy on December 10, 1943 in Albany, New York. He served in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. Donald was the proud recipient of the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. On May 25, 1946, Donald was honorably discharge from the United States Navy.
On December 24, 1947, Donald married his wife, the late Joyce Bentley in Arlington, Vermont. Together they have four children; Holly, Enid, Zane and Jay, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom they loved dearly.
Throughout the years, Donald worked for W & LE Gurley Company and General Electric in Schenectady.
Despite eventually becoming blind, Donald was able to overcome this by staying active. He loved animals, birds, nature and especially spending time with his family. Donald had a pilot’s license for many years, was a beekeeper and was a licensed ham radio operator.
Special sessions may also be convened at the request of the Chairman.
The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.
We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
At the request of local interpreters, if an interpreter is needed at any meeting in the Legislature they require 2 weeks advance notice. Thank you for your cooperation.
