1927 – 2011
FAMILY HISTORY:
Neil M. Manchester was born on July 10, 1927 in Hoosick Falls, New York. He was the son of the late Martin and Millicent (Vincent) Manchester, and brother to Edwin, Hugh, Lynn and Lynda
EDUCATION/HISTORY:
While attending high school, Neil proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on July 31, 1944 serving with the Seabees at the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd class until 1946. Neil was awarded the American theatre medal, Victory medal Asiatic-Pacific medal, and Navy Unit Commendation
PERSONAL:
Neil married his wife, Lois (Case) Manchester on February 11, 1951 in Hoosick Falls, New York. Together they had three children: Amy, Beth, (the late) Gregory; and two grandchildren: (the late) Darel and Corey: and one great grandchild; Allie
WORK EXPERIENCE:
After his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on June 2, 1944. Neil went on to carry out his promise to his mother by going back to high school and was a member of the first graduating class of 1947 of the “new” Berlin High School.
After graduation Neil was employed as a Wholesale Florist for Seagrott’s Roses for 25 years. He then ran the North Petersburgh Country Store for 15 years and retired from the Troy Housing Authority
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:
Neil was a grand master of the Petersburg F & AM, a member of the Taconic Valley American Legion Post #937, a member of the Petersburg Fire Department, Petersburg Baptist Church, served as town justice from, Chairman of the Board of Assessors, Deputy Town Supervisor, Town Supervisor, Chairman Civic Council, and a former Town Highway Supervisor.
He was co-founder with his cousin Roger on the Petersburgh Veterans Honor Roll Monument dedicated in November of 2007. Up to the time of his passing, Neil served as Town Veteran’s Service Officer. Neil also loved to hunt and fish
Sadly, on December 4, 2011, Neil passed away and was laid to rest at the Meadow Lawn Cemetery, Petersburgh, New York
Special sessions may also be convened at the request of the Chairperson.
The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.
We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
