June 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran – William (Bill) Robert McDonough

William (Bill) Robert McDonough
1932-2024

FAMILY HISTORY:
William (Bill) Robert McDonough was born on March 15, 1932 in Troy, New York. He was the son of the late John and Helen (Ryan) McDonough, and brother to Jack McDonough.

EDUCATION:
Bill grew up in Troy, New York and received his education through St. Augustine’s School, graduating from Catholic Central High School, and went on to finish his education at Siena College. Later residing in Lansingburgh, New York.

HISTORY:
In 1952, Bill enlisted with the United States Army, where he was assigned to the rank of Staff Sergeant and Medic while stationed in Korea, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Division.  During his time in the Korean War he was awarded the Purple Heart (wounded twice), and the Bronze Star with Valor.

PERSONAL:
Bill married his wife, Maureen (Link) McDonough on July 2, 1960 at the St. Frances deSales Catholic Church, Troy, New York. Together they had five children: Tim, Kathy, Kevin, Sandy, and Mark; and ten grandchildren; Mindy, Amanda, Molly, Connor, Jake, Emily, Tyler, Patrick, Molly, and SioBhan.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
After his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on July 1, 1960 returning from Korea, Bill went to work for the Record Newspaper and enjoyed 45 years of employment, retiring as the National Advertising manager.  He was active in the community by way of coaching Little League, Independent Baseball.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:
Bill was a lifelong Communicant of St. Augustine’s Church, member of the Troy Kiwanis, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Veterans of Lansingburgh, founding member of the Friends of 112th Street where he was elected into the Athletic Hall of Fame, named Veteran of the Year in 2014, and a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan.

Sadly, on February 8, 2024, Bill passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

The agenda for a regular session is available on the Thursday preceding the meeting. Members of the public have the opportunity to speak on issues contained in the agenda for one-half hour prior to the opening of the meeting.

We also have a Public Forum night; this is a great opportunity for the Public to make comments to the full Legislative Body. It is held on the Wednesday of the week preceding our regular monthly meeting in Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.
