Monthly Report – March 2026

Taping of Public Forum – The Minority Legislators have long requested and urged the Republican Majority to record and post the monthly Public Forum expeditiously onto the Rensselaer County Legislature YouTube channel. Deputy Minority Leader Nina Nichols addressed Chairwoman Hoffman once again and stated that the equipment is already in place and there would be no additional cost to start recording immediately. It simply requires the push of a button. We remain hopeful and will stay on it.

P/60 – Implementing Oversight of the County’s Participation in the Federal 287(g) Program – Sadly and predictably, the resolution was defeated in the Rules committee. The purpose of the resolution simply asked to codify a regular reporting schedule between the Sheriff’s office and the Legislature, which would provide updates, due diligence and transparency. People care. Especially now, in light of the present immigration and customs enforcement crack-down. The least we can ask for is oversight and transparency.

Department Representative Meeting Attendance – Several legislators addressed the legislature in light of the lack of attendance of Department Representatives at their respective committee meetings, since the beginning of the year.  Resolution P/109/26 updates Rule #20 of the Rules of the Legislature and mandates a representative’s attendance.

It was passed unanimously by a 19-0 vote.

A Local Law Charter Change is scheduled for March 26 at 6:00pm at the County Office Building at 99 Troy Road. There will be a Public Hearing (public is invited to speak) followed by a Special Meeting to address and vote on the charter change.
