Monthly Report – February 2026

At the February 10 meeting, the Rensselaer County Legislature took bipartisan action to end the County Executive’s directive to ban department heads from attending their respective meetings. All 19 legislators sponsored a resolution urging the County Executive to follow established county rules: The Rules of the Legislature, The Rensselaer County Charter and the County Executive’s own 2018 Adopted Purchasing Procedures that require department representatives to attend committee meetings. These meetings are essential for reviewing resolutions, asking questions in real time, and ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars.

The measure passed unanimously, 18–0 with one absence.

Contrary to what the County Executive has stated in the Times Union article on February 13 the Democratic Minority office has never received any communication or responses from either the County Executive or Department Heads on any and all of their communications. This lack of communication and non-responsiveness has been typical on many other occasions.

As we move into the March meeting cycle, the Minority office will remain steadfast and continue advocating for open communication, adherence to county law, and efficient government operations on behalf of Rensselaer County residents.
