District One – City of Troy

Rensselaer County Legislator, Nina M. Nichols, was elected on November 2, 2021, and is grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Troy. Nina serves on the Legislature’s Planning & Tourism and Veterans & Youth Committees.

Nina is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a B.A. in Religion and Music and has a Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago. She moved to Troy in 2006, put down roots and chose to make it home. Her three children attended Troy Schools.

She has served on the Board of Directors for the ARC of Rensselaer County, CEO, Troy Area United Ministries, Friends of Chamber Music, and Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park. She is currently Co-President of the Board of Directors for Oakwood Community Center. In 2012/2013 Nina represented all Troy residents on the Troy City Council, advanced quality of life legislation, addressed local business concerns, and advocated for programs and policies that moved us toward a safer, cleaner, greener Troy. Nina is, currently, the Assistant Director of Development at Unity House, a human services agency.

Nina will work for a better Rensselaer County and Troy—where people will be proud to live, work, learn, and have fun. Nina brings experience, energy, and enthusiasm to this position, along with a passion for equity and justice for all who call Troy home. If you have questions, concerns, or a vision for what would make our city and county better, Nina would love to hear from you.
