Mary Frances Sabo is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the George Washington University School of Law. She was elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature to represent District 2, (Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush and Poestenkill) on November 5, 2025. She is the first democrat in 20 years to be elected to this role. Mary Frances serves on the Public Works and the Planning and Tourism committees.
Mary Frances retired as an attorney for New York State after 24 years of service. She spent most of her career at the New York State Insurance Department and Department of Financial Services, where she focused on expanding healthcare coverage to the uninsured; followed by several years at the New York State Department of Transportation, where she worked in a variety of areas, including land use and motor carrier safety.
Currently, Mary Frances serves her second term on the North Greenbush Town Board, where she has had many accomplishments. She sponsored a resolution registering the town as a New York State Climate Smart Community, therefore securing funding for climate initiatives helping the Town prepare for severe weather events. She also advocated and secured pedestrian improvements on State Route 66.
Mary Frances is an active member in her community. She formerly served as a Trustee of the North Greenbush Library; as a Board Member on the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO), a local non-profit community action agency; as a girl scout leader and as President of the Bell Top Elementary School PTO. She currently volunteers in assisting an Afghan refugee family settle in the Albany area. She also uses her expertise on the advisory committee for the Capital District Transportation Committee’s Vision Zero Advisory Committee.
Mary Frances is dedicated to making Rensselaer County a wonderful place to live, work and visit. She is committed to promoting economic development that provides well-paying jobs and benefits all taxpayers. She will work to put the County on the path to energy efficiency and climate resilience.
