District Three – Towns of Brunswick, Pittstown and Schaghticoke

Herrington has worked to promote farming and agricultural businesses, which remain the county’s largest industry. Herrington also worked to establish the county Farmland Protection plan to safeguard open space and agricultural properties in the county.

Herrington has plenty of experience in farming and agriculture. He and his brother Phil, supervisor of the Town of Brunswick, operate Herrington Farms in Brunswick. The largest dairy farm in the county, the farm was designated as a National Dairy of Distinction and was the site of a visit by then-U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann Venneman in 2003.

As legislator, Herrington also helped create a position of agricultural economic development specialist in the county and has worked to promote farming as a business in the county.

“There are many county residents employed in agriculture and farming, and millions of dollars generated by the farming industry each year. It helps the overall economy of the county to give a boost to these businesses,” said Herrington.

As legislator, Herrington also has worked to improve county roads and voted to provide more efficient highway equipment for the county Highway Department. He also voted to protect needed services for seniors, veterans and youths and voted three times to lower the amount of county property tax increases.

Herrington has also voted to seek tougher restrictions on paroled sex offenders to protect children and families and has been an advocate for relief from huge state and federal mandates that negatively impact the county budget.

“We have been able to continue to provide needed services for residents and even improve some services at a time when other counties were struggling to stay in the black. We want to do even more to protect quality of life in the county and improve county services,” said Herrington.

Herrington has been with the Legislature since 1998. He was also a member of the Legislature from 1982 to 1985, following two terms as a member of the Brunswick Town Board in the 1970s and 1980s. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of captain.

Herrington lives on the family farm in Brunswick and the parent of two(2) daughters: Jessica, Millie, and a son,  Jason.
