Rensselaer County Democratic Legislators Representing Troy Support Mayor Carmella Mantello’s Efforts to Renegotiate Sales Tax Revenue Agreement

TROY, NY — The Democratic Rensselaer County Legislators representing the City of Troy are expressing their support for Mayor Carmella Mantello’s efforts to engage County Executive Steve McLaughlin in discussions aimed at renegotiating the existing sales tax revenue agreement between Rensselaer County and the City of Troy.

Recognizing the importance of securing a more equitable distribution of sales tax revenue that reflects Troy’s financial needs and contributions to the county, the legislators are formally requesting inclusion in all future discussions and negotiations concerning potential changes to the agreement.

“As elected representatives of the City of Troy at the county level, we believe our involvement is essential to ensuring transparency, open communication, and a collaborative approach that protects the interests of both city and county taxpayers,” stated Legislator Gary Galuski.

“Any proposed changes to the sales tax agreement should be carefully evaluated to ensure Troy receives an appropriate share of revenue while maintaining fiscal responsibility and recognizing the financial needs of Rensselaer County as a whole,” said Legislator Jessica Ashley.

The legislators believe that open dialogue among city and county officials will be essential to developing an agreement that is fair, fiscally responsible, and responsive to the needs of Troy residents and taxpayers.

“We remain committed to working collaboratively with Mayor Mantello and County Executive McLaughlin to pursue a balanced, sustainable agreement that strengthens Troy’s financial future while serving the best interests of residents and businesses throughout our community,” stated Legislator Mark Fleming.
