FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Rensselaer County Legislature Anticipates Strong Public Turnout at August Public Forum Over Hoosick Road Corridor Development Concerns
The Rensselaer County Legislature is preparing for a large and passionate turnout at its upcoming monthly Public Forum, scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, August 6 at 6:00 PM at the County Office Building. Residents from across the county are expected to attend in support of a resolution that calls for a pause on approvals of continued development along the Hoosick Road corridor.
The resolution, introduced by concerned legislators and backed by a growing coalition of community members, reflects mounting unease over the pace and scale of development in the corridor. Residents cite traffic congestion, pedestrian safety, and declining quality of life as key issues that demand immediate attention.
“This is not about opposing growth—it’s about ensuring that development is thoughtful, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of the community,” said local advocate, Mary Ellen Adams. “We want our elected officials to hear us and act with urgency.”
The proposed resolution urges the Town to temporarily halt new development approvals along the corridor until a comprehensive impact study can be conducted. The goal is to assess infrastructure capacity, traffic flow, and neighborhood livability before further expansion proceeds.
The Legislature encourages all residents to attend the forum and share their perspectives. Public comment will begin at 6:00 PM, and speakers are asked to sign up to speak before the meeting and will be heard on a first-come, first-served basis.
