October meeting highlights:

Environment: The Legislature unanimously passed a resolution urging the New York State Department of Health (DOH) to place air monitors in several locations within the city of Rensselaer.  Early in the year the DOH had promised to do so, but reversed its decision in July. Residents have been complaining of bad odors and dust clouds, and air monitors are an essential tool to determine the air quality.

The Legislature also recognized November 15, as National Recycling Day in Rensselaer County.

Youth: “Coats for Kids Campaign” – Once again the annual Golf Fundraiser at the Troy Country Club was a great success and raised $ 14,000. The legislature passed a resolution to purchase 875 coats, which will be distributed through several agencies to needy children.

Public Works: The Highway Department was allocated additional funding in order to add additional road projects to the 2019 infrastructure improvement program. In preparation for winter, annual road salt purchase and snow plowing contracts with several municipalities were also renewed by the legislature.

The Rensselaer County Legislature presented a resolution honoring the 2019 Van Rensselaer Awards recipients Siena College, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and Paula Stopera from Cap Com.
