November 2018
The following are highlights of the November meeting:
Youth – “Coats for Kids Campaign” – Once again the annual Golf Fundraiser held at the Troy Country Club was a great success and raised $ 14,000 and the legislature was able to pass a resolution to purchase 750 coats for needy children. Thank you to all participants!
Mental Health – The Legislature unanimously approved a contract at no cost to the County to provide TRIP with a part-time Project Coordinator to assist the Troy Drug Free Community Coalition in achieving its contracted obligations with the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration. With the County’s Mental Health Department expertise, this mutually beneficial contract will allow the department to provide services to rural areas.
Employment & Training – An agreement to provide employment and training services to eligible, low income youth, through the ARC of Rensselaer County and the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) was approved by the Legislature. This 100% federally funded program offers academic and occupational skill training, leadership development and community service learning, as well as summer employment to disadvantaged, disconnected youth and those with intellectual disabilities.
The T21 Local Law – A law to raise the age to 21, when our youth can purchase smoking products was introduced at the October meeting and will be voted on at the December 10 meeting. We invite the public to attend the Public Forum on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the legislative chambers to voice their opinion on this and any other issues they may be concerned about.
The Rensselaer County Legislature Minority members presented two resolutions honoring the Alchar Printing Group and TRIP each on their 50th Anniversary.
NEXT MEETING – Tuesday, December 10, 2018, in the Rensselaer County Chambers located on the 3rd floor of the Ned Pattison Government Center, 1600 7th Avenue, Troy.
