November 2019 Meeting Highlights:

Criminal Justice Reform: The legislature unanimously approved two resolutions submitted by the democratic and republican caucuses, urging Governor Cuomo and the NYS legislature to review and reconsider the 2020 criminal justice reform and appropriate the necessary funding for the additional costs the county will incur by complying with the newly mandated legislation.

Van Rensselaer Manor: The legislature renewed several annual contracts for the manor, such as podiatry services and laboratory services; as well as the authorization to purchase a new lawn mower and mulch kit to replace an old one in order to maintain the 20 acres of property.

Additionally, as baby boomers are retiring and in need of senior care, the legislature approved a feasibility study to evaluate the need for an adult day care center at the manor.

Employment & Training – An agreement to provide employment and training services to eligible, low income youth, through the ARC of Rensselaer County and the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) was approved by the Legislature. This 100% federally funded program offers academic and occupational skill training, leadership development and community service learning, as well as summer employment for disadvantaged, disconnected youth and those with intellectual disabilities.
