The following are highlights of the May meeting:

Youth – The Legislature unanimously accepted a State grant for a 10 week USDA/State Education Summer Food program providing nutritious meals to children of the county. This

$ 244,989 grant provides over 100,000 meals, including breakfast, lunch and snack.

 Human Resource – The County and Council 82, the union representing the Corrections Officers have reached an agreement to succeed the present collective bargaining agreement, starting January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2023, which was ratified by their members on April 9, 2019.  

 

Health – The Health Department accepted a Federal grant for the Healthy Neighborhoods Program. This funding provides the Health Department, working in conjunction with the Albany and Rensselaer County Cornell Cooperative Extensions, with the means to identify high risk housing, and provide the resources to eliminate risks that can cause hazardous living environments; such as lead poisoning and asthma inducing contaminants.

 

The Rensselaer County Legislature members presented a resolution honoring the exceptional life of Nina Pattison, who was an active and integral member of the City of Troy. She passed away on March 2nd, 2019 at age 91.
