June 2019
The following are highlights of the June meeting:
Aging: This month, the Legislators sought to improve the lives of Rensselaer County’s senior citizens. A resolution was passed to grant the Department of Aging a new van. This van will ensure that our elderly residents will have access to transportation whether it is to one of our Senior Centers or medical appointments.
Education: The Rensselaer County Legislature sponsored many resolutions that will help our local community college, Hudson Valley Community College. Funds have been allocated to help finance a parking lot which is desperately needed. Some of the money will also help repair and renovate certain buildings throughout the campus, facilitating a better, more productive learning environment.
Mental Health: A resolution was passed unanimously by the Legislators to enhance substance abuse prevention programs in schools across the county. This service will extend to students, families and staff ensuring a safer Rensselaer County.
The Schaghticoke Fair will be held from August 28th to September 2nd. This year, the fair will be celebrating its 200th anniversary. The event attracts thousands of guests each year with various activities. The Legislators were responsible for securing additional funding to ensure the fair’s bicentennial celebration is a memorable occasion.
