Mike Stammel of Rensselaer chosen to lead Legislature
The Rensselaer County Legislature held its 2018 Organizational Meeting this evening and selected Mike Stammel as its new Chairman. Stammel has served as a legislator since 2001. Mike Stammel lives in Rensselaer and has been a volunteer firefighter for over 40 years. Stammel volunteers in many other organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County and the Rensselaer Little League. “I look forward to working with the new and the re-elected county legislators and our new County Executive Steve McLaughlin in continuing to make Rensselaer County a great place to live, work, and play.
The Legislature also chose Kelly Hoffman as Vice Chairperson. Kelly lives in Wynantskill and was re-elected to her second term as a legislator representing District 2. Kelly is the first woman to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Rensselaer County Legislature.
“I am honored and humbled that my colleagues have chosen me for this important position. I look forward to working with Chairman Stammel and the majority and minority members of the Legislature to continue the good work of the Legislature.”, said Hoffman.
Robert Loveridge was chosen to serve as the Vice Chairman for Finance. Loveridge was just elected to serve his first full term after being appointed to fill a vacancy in December of 2016. Loveridge, lives in East Schodack in District 4. Loveridge served as the Superintendent of the Rensselaer County Jail from 1994 until 2010. Loveridge had a nearly four decade career in law enforcement.
Ken Herrington was chosen to continue on as the Leader of the Republican Majority.
“Rensselaer County has a history of conservative budgeting that stays under the tax cap and I intend to continue to keep a close eye on County finances.”, said Loveridge.
The Legislature Minority chose Peter Grimm to remain minority leader.
