District Two – Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush, Poestenkill

Tom Grant was elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature, representing the Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush and Poestenkill, for a four year term that commenced on January 1, 2018. On November 2, 2021 Tom was reelected to a second term, that commenced on January 1. 2022.

Immediately, prior to his service on the County Legislature, Tom served as an East Greenbush Town Councilman.

Tom has served as an elected East Greenbush Town Councilman, as a Mediator, as a Certified Correctional Auditor for the American Correctional Association and as a Technical Consultant to the television series Law & Order: SVU.

Tom is a retired New York State Parole Board Commissioner and was a former Legislative Director for the New York State Senate.

Tom is a member of the Board of Directors of Mediation Matters, the Family and Friends of Homicide Victims, the New York State Dispute Resolution Association, the Rensselaer Elks, the East Greenbush Kiwanis, the Friends of East Greenbush Library and the Rensselaer County Re-Entry Task Force.

Tom also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC).

Tom earned his undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and his graduate degree (Master of Science) from the State University of New York at Albany.

As a County Legislator, Tom is a member the following Legislative Committees: Chairman of Judiciary & Public Safety and Social Services, and member Contracts and Agreements. He is also a legislative representative to the following boards: Rensselaer County Emergency Communications, Rensselaer County Fire Advisory and the Rensselaer County Heroin Coalition.

Tom is married to the former Eileen Sweitzer and they are the proud parents of two adult sons: Tom and John.
