SUMMARY:February 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - John Sebastian Weaver
DESCRIPTION:John Sebastian Weaver\n1914-1977 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJohn Sebastian Weaver was born on September 25\, 1914 in Albany\, New York. He was the son of the late Charles and Susan (Webb) Weaver\, and brother to Frank\, Charles\, Sarah\, and Rita. \nEDUCATION:\nJohn grew up on Ida Hill\, Troy\, New York and received his education and graduated through the St. Francis School in Troy\, NY. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1944\, John enlisted in the United States Army\, where he was assigned to the Military Police Unit.  John was shipped overseas after basic training to Italy\, where he was reassigned to 167th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion-Battery D.  John later relocated to Germany shortly after and wounded in combat.  A little over a month\, John returned to duty and was eventually stationed in France\, Belgium\, Luxembourg\, Netherlands\, and Germany. During his time of service John was awarded the Purple Heart\, WWII Victory Metal\, the Combat Infantry Badge\, the Good Conduct WWII American Campaign Metal\, the European -African-Middle Eastern Service Metal\, and 3 Campaign Stars. \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his wife\, Bessie (Hobbs) on October 15\, 1936. Together they had ten children: Jack\, Tom\, Richard\, Robert\, Donald\, Nancy\, Judy\, Jerry\, Larry\, and Pat; and twenty-three grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, John was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal doing Security.  A few years later he joined the State Work Force as a Bridgetender on the Congress Street Bridge in Troy under the New York State Department of Transportation. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, John became the House Chairman of the Emerald Athletic Club\, a member of the Jolly Rogers for over 20 years\, was instrumental in organizing the 1st Troy Flag Day Parade which was celebrated for over 50 years\, a lifelong supporter of the Troy Democratic Party\, and was involved as an Alderman for the 18th Ward. \nSadly\, on November 4\, 1977\, John passed away and was laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery\, Troy\, New York. \n
