DESCRIPTION:DECEMBER 2018 \nJOSEPH GREGORY CAMPBELL-  HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN\n1911-1988 \n  \n \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJoseph Gregory Campbell was born on September 1\, 1911 in Colonie\, New York to James David Campbell and Mary Aloysia Martley Campbell.  Joseph was the brother of Margaret Campbell McLaughlin\, James Campbell\, William Campbell\, Agnes Regina Campbell Preisser\, Eleanor Campbell Krackeler\, Mary Campbell Hyer\, John Campbell and Vincent Campbell. \nEDUCATION:\nJoseph attended St. John’s Academy in Rensselaer\, New York\, graduating in 1930. \nHISTORY:\nPrivate First Class Campbell enlisted in the United States Army on March 3\, 1944 during World War II.  PFC Campbell served as a Rifleman 745 with the 71st Division\, using an M1 rifle to take and hold enemy positions.  Joseph was proficient in the use of other infantry weapons such as machine gun and mortar.  He served 12 months in France and Germany and was awarded battle stars for the Rhineland and Central Germany Campaigns.  Joseph was also the proud recipient of European African Middle Eastern Service Medal\, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.  Joseph was honorably discharged on January 16\, 1946. \nPERSONAL:\nOn September 19\, 1938\, Joseph married his wife Henrietta Matson Campbell at St. John’s Church in Rensselaer\, New York.  Together they had three daughters\, Barbara Campbell Daigle\, Carol Susan Campbell Groark and Deborah Campbell Giordano.  Joseph is also survived by seven grandchildren\, Kathleen Parker\, Sheila Cramer\, Janice Griffin\, Elizabeth Haar\, James Groark\, Eileen Hayes and David Giordano; and eleven great grandchildren\, Joseph Giordano\, Ethan\, Christopher\, and Rory Joseph Hayes\, Mackenzie Cramer\, Emma\, Sarah\, and John Groark\, Gavin and Maci Haar and Michael Maynard Parker. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nJoseph was owner and operator of Campbell’s Sunoco Service Station in Rensselaer\, New York for more than forty-five years. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJoseph was a member of the Gerard O’Neil VFW Post\, Knights of Columbus and the EF Hart Hose Pumper 3 Volunteer Fire Department.  He was also a member of the St. John’s Academy basketball team\, where in 1930 they received an invitation to play in the National Catholic High School Tournament in Chicago\, Illinois. \nJoseph was an avid Trout fisherman\, and he enjoyed growing vegetables in the family garden and traveling with his wife\, Henrietta.  Most of all\, Joseph loved to spend time with his f

DESCRIPTION:HERMAN WILLIAM MIASKI\n1929-2010 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nHerman William Miaski was born on February 23\, 1929 in Averill Park\, New York to the late Anson Walter Miaski and Helen (Levenworth) Miaski.  Herman was the brother of Lois Clifford\, Rita Buhl and the late Vera Fowler\, Edmond Miaski and Sharon Evans. \nEDUCATION:\nHerman attended Sherwood Park School and graduated from Columbia High School\, class of 1946. \nHISTORY:\nHerman enlisted in the United States Army on September 25\, 1946.  Private First Class Miaski was serving with the 25th Infantry Division\, 90th Field Artillery Battalion.  Herman served in the Occupation of Japan and spent time in Tokyo\, Nara\, Koshien\, Kobe\, Osaka\, Nagasaki\, Hiroshima\, Oji and Nishinomiya.  While stationed in Japan\, Herman was a Warehouse Man\, assisting with the receiving\, handling\, storing\, shipping and issuing of all types of military supplies and equipment.  He also had to fill orders from warehouse stock and assisted with the taking of inventories\, checked items issued and received against invoices and bills of lading.  Herman was the proud recipient of the World War II Victory Medal\, the Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp\, the Expert Rifle Marksman Badge\, the Expert Carbine Marksman Badge and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.  He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on April 12\, 1948. \nPERSONAL:\nOn September 1\, 1972\, Herman married his wife\, Barbara (Popiel) Miaski in Schodack\, New York.  Together they had one son\, Anson William Miaski and two grandchildren\, Ryan Anson Miaski and Adam William Miaski and several nieces and nephews. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nHerman was employed as a mason and contractor in the 1950s and 1960s and a truck driver in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  In June of 1975\, Herman joined the Engineering Department at Albany Memorial Hospital as a carpenter\, retiring from there in December of 2005.  Herman was also the co-owner of Garfield Tree Farm in Stephentown. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nHerman was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church\, Teamsters Union and the National Christmas Tree Association.  Herman was a volunteer fireman at the Sherwood Park Station in the mid 1950s. \nHerman played baseball and softball in the Albany Twilight league for many years.  He also spent many years bowling in local leagues.  He was an outdoorsman; enjoying hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed photography and reading.

SUMMARY:Thomas E. Hendry\, Jr. Honor A Deceased Veteran Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:THOMAS E. HENDRY\, JR.\n1923-1992 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nThomas E. Hendry\, Jr. was born on August 31\, 1923 in Troy\, New York to the late Thomas E. Hendry and Bessie K. Hendry (Kerr).  Thomas was a lifelong resident of Troy. \n  \nEDUCATION:\nThomas was a graduate from Troy High School and received his degree in Social Work from Springfield College in 1952. \nHISTORY:\nThomas enlisted in the United States Army on August 7\, 1943 during World War II.  He arrived in the European Theater of Action on March 1\, 1944\, where he was as a Rifleman and a mortar gunner.  Thomas was promoted to Corporal\, serving with the 3rd Army\, 15th Cavalry Recon Squad.  He was in charge of a mortar crew of three enlisted men\, providing fire power for cavalry and infantry units.  He also aided in the capture of enemy positions and personnel.  On August 23\, 1944\, during the Battle of Brest\, in France\, Thomas was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.  Thomas was also the proud recipient of One Bronze Battle Star\, American Theater Ribbon\, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon\, Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.  Thomas was honorably discharged on September 10\, 1947. \nPERSONAL:\nThomas married his wife Helen L. Hendry (Filken) on May 1\, 1953 in Troy\, New York.  Together they had a son\, Thomas C. Hendry; and two daughters\, Carol Dwyer and Sara Hendry.  Thomas is also survived by his seven grandchildren\, Gillian\, Shane\, Rachel\, Sara Jane\, Mary\, Stephen and Thomas. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nThomas was employed by the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services as a Social Worker and as a Deputy Commissioner for 37 years\, retiring in 1989. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nThomas was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Memorial United Methodist Church in Troy\, where he was a chairman of its trustees for 20 years.  He was also active in youth coaching with Little League\, Babe Ruth Baseball and basketball.

DESCRIPTION:HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN\nAUGUST 2018 \nRONALD JOHN WELSH\n1957 – 2018 \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nRonald John Welsh was born on August 23\, 1957 in Albany\, New York to the late Margaret Helen Welsh (Wickham).  Ronald was the brother of Christina Baker\, Margaret “Midge” Northrup\, Joseph Welsh and the late William Welsh and Kathleen Walker. \nEDUCATION:\nRonald graduated from Savannah High School\, class of 1977.  He then attended Cadre Instructor School where he graduated top of his class.  Ronald also attended United States Army Ranger Courses. \nHISTORY:\nRonald served in the United States Army and the National Guard from 1975-1997.  He saw active duty in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War and was a Squad Leader in Combat Military Police Operations.  Ronald was the proud recipient of many awards and medals; Good Conduct Medal\, Overseas Service Ribbon\, Army Service Ribbon\, Army Lapel Button\, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-16A1)\, 1st Class Qualification (Hand Grenade) Expert Badge\, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars\, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.  With over 21 years of service\, Ronald was honorably discharged in 1997. \nPERSONAL:\nRonald is survived by his wife of seventeen years\, Sandra Welsh; his children\, Rondene (Ernest Cannon\, Ronald John Welsh\, Jr.\, Jeffrey (Amy) Welsh and Jason Welsh; his grandchildren\, Ernest Cannon\, IV\, Nautica Cannon\, Ryan Cannon\, Krystal Cannon\, Joshua Cannon\, Audrey Welsh\, Amelia Welsh and Owen Welsh; and one great grandchild\, Genisus Cannon.  Ronald is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his feline babies\, Nicholas\, Cricket and Ranger. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nRonald was employed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)\, where he performed duties in Logistics to provide disaster relief all over the country.  He was also a 1983 Military Police\, 105th Patrol Supervisor in Troy\, New York. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRonald was a member of the Lansingburgh VFW and often assisted others in group therapy sessions. \nRonald’s cats were very near and dear to him.  He enjoyed toy collecting\, traveling\, camping\, collecting sports memorabilia\, antiquing\, gardening\, playing board games and spending time with his family.
