SUMMARY:April 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - Glen P. Cook
DESCRIPTION:Glen P. Cook\n1917-2004 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nGlen P. Cook was born on April 10\, 1917 in Albany\, New York. He was the son of the late Glen S. and Elizabeth (Radstrom) Cook\, and brother to Helen\, Marian\, and Lillian. \nEDUCATION:\nGlen grew up in East Greenbush\, New York\, and received his education and graduated through the Albany Academy\, class of 1936\, and later resided in East Greenbush\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1942\, Glen enlisted in the United States Army.  He served with the Civil Air Patrol at the beginning of World War II\, escorting convoys and serving in the Pacific Theater on Guam\, Saipan and Iwo Jima.  Glen was awarded the Air Medal by President Truman\, recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for voluntary active duty in WWII flying over 700 hours over the Atlantic Ocean in Civilian aircraft against Axis Submarines off the Coast of Rehobeth Beach\, Delaware\, Good Conduct Medal\, Victory Medal\, Meritorious Unit Award\, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal\, American Theater Service Medal. \n PERSONAL:\nGlen married his wife\, Beatrice C. (Center) Cook on August 12\, 1950 at the Greenbush Reformed Church. Together they had three children: Glen\, David\, and Robert; and five grandchildren; April Diaz\, Kimber Enguita\, Dayna Smith\, Elisabeth McGeough\, and Glen W. Cook. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on June 23\, 1946\, Glen was owner/operator of Glen S. Cook & Son Commercial Photographers that his father started in 1913. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nGlen was a member of the Albany Executive Association for 45 years\, member of the James Ten Eyck Lodge #831 starting in 1960\, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.  He was also Most Wise Master in 1972 serving on the Albany Sovereign Consistory as commander-in-chief in 1983. \nGlen was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of East Greenbush-Nassau with a perfect attendance for 53 years\, member of the International Pilots Association known as the Quiet Birdmen\, member of Professional Photographers of America and was appointed as Elite 300 placing him in the top 5%\, created Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33 degree honorary member of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite\, member of the Royal Order of Scotland and joined York Rite College\, and a member of Wadsworth Lodge 417 F&AM of Albany. \nSadly\, on February 9\, 2004\, Glen passed away and was laid to rest at the East Greenbush Cemetery. \n

SUMMARY:May 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - Thomas M. Walsh\, Sr.
DESCRIPTION:  \nThomas M. Walsh\, Sr.\n1935-2024 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nThomas M. Walsh\, Sr. was born on November 6\, 1935 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late Myles Walsh and Irene (King) Hegarty\, and brother to Arlene\, and the late Annina. \nEDUCATION:\nTom grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through Troy High School\, and went on to continue his education with the Command and General Staff College\, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  Tom later resided in Wynantskill and Brunswick\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1953\, Tom enlisted with the United States Army National Guard\, where he was assigned to the 105th Medical Command\, 27th Infantry Division. Tom earned numerous commendations including the New York State Long and Faithful Service Award\, NYS Recruiting Medal\, NYS Military Commendation Medal\, NYS Aid to Civil Authority Medal\, NYS Humane Service Medal\, Army Commendation Medal\, and two Meritorious Service Medals\, prestigiously retiring with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel. \nPERSONAL:\nTom married his beloved wife\, Diane E. (Gailey) Walsh on September 8\, 1957. Together they had five children: Kathleen\, Thomas\, Michael\, Jennifer\, and Mary; and ten grandchildren; Jenét\, Tiana\, Mathew\, Patrick\, Shannon\, Melissa\, Skyler\, Ethan\, Hunter\, and Austin; and many great grandchildren\, nieces and nephews. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army National Guard on March 11\, 1981\, Tom was employed by Watervliet Arsenal and retired as Chief of Manufacturing where he oversaw 1300 employees and was the National Vice President of the Federal Managers Association\, Wells Communications\, and Rensselaer County Jail in the Maintenance Department.  Tom served as the Brunswick Town Supervisor before being elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature\, where he served his constituents in Legislative District No. 3 (Towns of Brunswick\, Schaghticoke and Pittstown)\, with pride for 5 terms. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nTom was instrumental in the Medal of Honor Memorial called the “Hall of Heroes”.  He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus\, Council 10990\, Elks Club\, VFW\, and loved going to Bolton Landing in the Summer and Florida in the winter. \nSadly\, on December 25\, 2024\, Tom passed away and was laid to rest at Eagle Mills Cemetery with Military Honors.

DESCRIPTION:William (Bill) Robert McDonough\n1932-2024 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nWilliam (Bill) Robert McDonough was born on March 15\, 1932 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late John and Helen (Ryan) McDonough\, and brother to Jack McDonough. \nEDUCATION:\nBill grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through St. Augustine’s School\, graduating from Catholic Central High School\, and went on to finish his education at Siena College. Later residing in Lansingburgh\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1952\, Bill enlisted with the United States Army\, where he was assigned to the rank of Staff Sergeant and Medic while stationed in Korea\, 65th Infantry Regiment\, 3rd Division.  During his time in the Korean War he was awarded the Purple Heart (wounded twice)\, and the Bronze Star with Valor. \nPERSONAL:\nBill married his wife\, Maureen (Link) McDonough on July 2\, 1960 at the St. Frances deSales Catholic Church\, Troy\, New York. Together they had five children: Tim\, Kathy\, Kevin\, Sandy\, and Mark; and ten grandchildren; Mindy\, Amanda\, Molly\, Connor\, Jake\, Emily\, Tyler\, Patrick\, Molly\, and SioBhan. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on July 1\, 1960 returning from Korea\, Bill went to work for the Record Newspaper and enjoyed 45 years of employment\, retiring as the National Advertising manager.  He was active in the community by way of coaching Little League\, Independent Baseball. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nBill was a lifelong Communicant of St. Augustine’s Church\, member of the Troy Kiwanis\, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick\, Veterans of Lansingburgh\, founding member of the Friends of 112th Street where he was elected into the Athletic Hall of Fame\, named Veteran of the Year in 2014\, and a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan. \nSadly\, on February 8\, 2024\, Bill passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery. \n

He was the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Phillips) McLaughlin\, and brother to Joseph\, Patrick\, and Gary McLaughlin \nEDUCATION:\nWilliam was raised and educated Troy\, New York\, Class of “63” \nHISTORY:\nIn 1969\, William enlisted with the United States Navy Reserve in Troy\, New York\, where he was assigned to the rank of Hospitalman (HN3) and went on to be educated and trained in: Counter Insurgency in which you are preparing personnel to effectively respond to insurgencies\, which are organized uprisings that aim to overthrow a government or control territory. This training focuses on understanding the tactics and strategies of insurgent groups\, as well as developing skills in various aspects of COIN operations\, and (SE. E) Senior Enlisted Academy military education lectures on Compound and Weapons Orientation \nDuring his time in the Navy he was awarded National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal \nPERSONAL:\nWilliam had one child: Brett; and two grandchildren: Tyler\, and Anthony. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on September 19\, 1971 and returned home\, and went on to become a fireman with the Troy Fire Department for 26 years\, retiring as Captain in 1995.  William loved fishing and bird watching with his grandchildren and going on long rides with the love of his life\, the late\, Sandy Seney.  He was an outstanding baseball player and coach\, he loved playing ball with his son \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nWilliam followed in his father footsteps by learning the rank Fire Captain.  He was always willing to help a neighbor\, and took care of his brother\, Joseph\, at the end of his life \nSadly\, on April 3\, 2014\, William passed away and was laid to rest at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. \n

He was the son of the late August and Rose (Cleary) Zink\, and brother to Leona \nEDUCATION:\nJohn was raised in South Troy\, and a graduate of St. Mary’s and Troy High School. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1943\, John enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in Troy\, New York\, where he was assigned to the rank of private first class\, where he held the position of a Machinist 2nd class\, and military specialties of Machine Gunner 604 during World War II and a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima \nA fierce and bloody conflict was fought between United States and Japan from February 19th to March 26th\, 1945.  It was a 36-day battle for control of the island of Iwo Jima.  The battle resulted in heavy casualties on both sides\, with the US Marines suffering some of their highest losses of the war\, ultimately\, securing victory \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his late wife\, Justine (Francese) Zink at the St. Mary’s Church in Troy\, New York. Together they had six children: John Jr.\, Frank\, Madonna\, Thomas\, Robert\, Justine\, and Marianne; and 23 grandchildren \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corps on November 6\, 1945\, John went on to become a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal for 33 years\, retiring in 1977 \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJohn was a communicant of St. Henry’s Church\, a member of the North Greenbush American Legion Post 1489\, the Geerholt-Rehm VFW Post\, the Troy Elks Lodge\, the Wynantskill Senior Citizens and their bowling league and a past president of the Snyder Lake Improvement Association \nSadly\, on March 28\, 2000\, John passed away and was laid to rest at the St. Mary’s Cemetery

He was the son of the late George and Helen (Tenzar) Carras\, and brother to James\, William\, Catherine\, Peter\, John\, Francis\, Mary\, and Vincent \nEDUCATION:\nAndrew grew up in Albany\, New York\, and attended Phillip Livingston High School\, leaving before graduation to join the Navy.  He lied about his age so that he could serve\, his was not yet 18 years old.   Andrew later resided in East Greenbush\, New York \nHISTORY:\nIn 1941\, Andrew enlisted in the United States Navy.  Andrew was assigned to the destroyer USS Madison DD425 for the duration of the war.  He was the ships cook third class.  During his tour of duty\, the USS Madison was involved in a variety of conflicts.  Andrew was awarded the European African Eastern Area Campaign Medal\, European African Eastern Campaign Ribbon\, American Area Campaign Medal\, European African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon\, and the World War II Victory Ribbon \n PERSONAL:\nAndrew married his wife\, Lois (Kearney) Carras on May 8\, 1946 in Albany. Together they had three children: Helen\, Linda\, Kennedy\, and Lillian; three grandchildren: Elizabeth\, Melissa\, and Brian; Four great grandchildren: Rachel\, Lauren\, Adam\, and Abigail; and one great great grandchild; Lincoln \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on November 18\, 1945\, Andrew became employed by Tobin Packing Company in West Albany\, New York and worked in various positions until the plant closed in 1980.   After his retirement from Tobin Packing\, Andrew started working for the Town of East Greenbush Water Department from 1980 until 1986\, when he retired \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nAndrew was a member of East Greenbush Fire Company\, and Melvin roads American Legion.  He served on the East Greenbush Zoning Board of Appeals and as an East Greenbush Committeeman.  He loved to travel with his wife and family\, traveling to almost all of the 50 states.  He also enjoyed fishing\, gardening\, golfing and spending time with family and friends \nSadly\, on January 28\, 2017\, Andrew passed away and was laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in East Greenbush\, New York

He was the son of the late Albert and Jennie (Merola) Pasinella\, and brother to Joseph\, Anthony\, Tina\, Anna Rose\, and Caroline \nEDUCATION:\nDominic grew up in South Troy and later resided in Lansingburgh\, New York where he attended St. Mary’s School\, graduating from La Salle Institute\, then furthing his education at Hudson Valley Community College \nHISTORY:\nIn 1963\, Dominic enlisted in the United States Army\, during the Vietnam War in the Infantry holding the rank as Direct Crewman. Throughout his time in the Army\, Dominic received the Marksman Badge\, Good Conduct Medal\, and the National Defense Service Medal \nPERSONAL:\nDominic married his wife\, Carol (Moran) Pasinella on March 30\, 1968 at the Sacred Heart Church. Together they had four children: Dominic Jr. Stephen\, Kristen\, and Jeffrey; six grandchildren: Tyler\, Samantha\, Halee\, Gabriele\, Kyly and Adriana: two great grandchildren; Max and Lennon.  They all fondly called him Poppy \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, Dominic returned home and was employed at the Red Front Restaurant\, Behr-Manning Company\, was a part time painter\, later retiring from the Watervliet Arsenal after many years of service \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Dominic enjoyed watching Lansingburgh football games on Friday nights\, cooking (especially Sunday dinners)\, coffee club with his cousins and best friends\, taking walks\, watching his grandkids play sports\, and rooting for the Dodgers\, Yankees\, Rangers\, Giants\, and the Knicks \nDominic coached Lansingburgh Little League and Lansingburgh Independent\, kept the scorebook for the Lansingburgh Royals (all three levels).  Dominic was honored and inducted into the sports Hall of Fame from the Friends of 112th Street\, a member of the Italian Community Center\, and he was a faithful communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh \nSadly\, on November 8\, 2021\, Dominic passed away and was laid to rest at Gerald B.H. DESCRIPTION:James A. Schaeffer\n1943-2022 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJames A. Schaeffer was born on May 24\, 1943 in Pine Grove\, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Herbert. and Ethal (Reed Rumberger) Schaeffer\, and brother to Lenord and Rodney \nEDUCATION:\nJames grew up in Pine Grove\, Pennsylvania\, and received his education and graduated through the Pine Grove Central High School \nHISTORY:\nIn 1961\, James enlisted in the United States Army.  For his action against the enemy in Vietnam\, with no disregard for his own safety\, and for being the last man of his company to withdraw into the night\, he was awarded the Bronze Medal of Honor for Vietnam bravery.  A citation which accompanied the Medal read: “For the action on 24 April 1966.  While on Operation Birmingham\, Sgt. James A. Schaeffer RA13730638 Of Company C\, 1st Bn. 2nd Inf.\, 1st Division\, did so distinguish himself while under hostile fire\, by leading his rifle squad without hesitation toward the enemy.  With disregard to his own welfare\, he crawled within 5 meters of the intrenched enemy and killed two Viet Cong Snipers.  He was also the last man to withdraw into the night perimeter” \n PERSONAL:\nJames married his wife\, Patricia (Geiger) Schaeffer on April 10\, 1982 in Brunswick\, New York. Together they had seven children: Stacy\, Tamara\, James Jr.\, Cynthia\, Robert\, Susan and Deborah; and many grandchildren \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on October 14\, 1982\, James was the ROTC Instructor at Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie\, was employed at Albany RV as a RV Demonstration Technician \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJames was a member of the American Legion Post #1489 Wynantskill\, a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church and a volunteer at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany and Doors of Hope in West Sand Lake \nSadly\, on April 6\, 2022\, James passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery \n
