DESCRIPTION:William (Bill) Robert McDonough\n1932-2024 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nWilliam (Bill) Robert McDonough was born on March 15\, 1932 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late John and Helen (Ryan) McDonough\, and brother to Jack McDonough. \nEDUCATION:\nBill grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through St. Augustine’s School\, graduating from Catholic Central High School\, and went on to finish his education at Siena College. Later residing in Lansingburgh\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1952\, Bill enlisted with the United States Army\, where he was assigned to the rank of Staff Sergeant and Medic while stationed in Korea\, 65th Infantry Regiment\, 3rd Division.  During his time in the Korean War he was awarded the Purple Heart (wounded twice)\, and the Bronze Star with Valor. \nPERSONAL:\nBill married his wife\, Maureen (Link) McDonough on July 2\, 1960 at the St. Frances deSales Catholic Church\, Troy\, New York. Together they had five children: Tim\, Kathy\, Kevin\, Sandy\, and Mark; and ten grandchildren; Mindy\, Amanda\, Molly\, Connor\, Jake\, Emily\, Tyler\, Patrick\, Molly\, and SioBhan. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on July 1\, 1960 returning from Korea\, Bill went to work for the Record Newspaper and enjoyed 45 years of employment\, retiring as the National Advertising manager.  He was active in the community by way of coaching Little League\, Independent Baseball. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nBill was a lifelong Communicant of St. Augustine’s Church\, member of the Troy Kiwanis\, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick\, Veterans of Lansingburgh\, founding member of the Friends of 112th Street where he was elected into the Athletic Hall of Fame\, named Veteran of the Year in 2014\, and a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan. \nSadly\, on February 8\, 2024\, Bill passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery. \n

DESCRIPTION:  \nThomas M. Walsh\, Sr.\n1935-2024 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nThomas M. Walsh\, Sr. was born on November 6\, 1935 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late Myles Walsh and Irene (King) Hegarty\, and brother to Arlene\, and the late Annina. \nEDUCATION:\nTom grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through Troy High School\, and went on to continue his education with the Command and General Staff College\, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  Tom later resided in Wynantskill and Brunswick\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1953\, Tom enlisted with the United States Army National Guard\, where he was assigned to the 105th Medical Command\, 27th Infantry Division. Tom earned numerous commendations including the New York State Long and Faithful Service Award\, NYS Recruiting Medal\, NYS Military Commendation Medal\, NYS Aid to Civil Authority Medal\, NYS Humane Service Medal\, Army Commendation Medal\, and two Meritorious Service Medals\, prestigiously retiring with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel. \nPERSONAL:\nTom married his beloved wife\, Diane E. (Gailey) Walsh on September 8\, 1957. Together they had five children: Kathleen\, Thomas\, Michael\, Jennifer\, and Mary; and ten grandchildren; Jenét\, Tiana\, Mathew\, Patrick\, Shannon\, Melissa\, Skyler\, Ethan\, Hunter\, and Austin; and many great grandchildren\, nieces and nephews. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army National Guard on March 11\, 1981\, Tom was employed by Watervliet Arsenal and retired as Chief of Manufacturing where he oversaw 1300 employees and was the National Vice President of the Federal Managers Association\, Wells Communications\, and Rensselaer County Jail in the Maintenance Department.  Tom served as the Brunswick Town Supervisor before being elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature\, where he served his constituents in Legislative District No. 3 (Towns of Brunswick\, Schaghticoke and Pittstown)\, with pride for 5 terms. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nTom was instrumental in the Medal of Honor Memorial called the “Hall of Heroes”.  He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus\, Council 10990\, Elks Club\, VFW\, and loved going to Bolton Landing in the Summer and Florida in the winter. \nSadly\, on December 25\, 2024\, Tom passed away and was laid to rest at Eagle Mills Cemetery with Military Honors.

DESCRIPTION:Glen P. Cook\n1917-2004 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nGlen P. Cook was born on April 10\, 1917 in Albany\, New York. He was the son of the late Glen S. and Elizabeth (Radstrom) Cook\, and brother to Helen\, Marian\, and Lillian. \nEDUCATION:\nGlen grew up in East Greenbush\, New York\, and received his education and graduated through the Albany Academy\, class of 1936\, and later resided in East Greenbush\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1942\, Glen enlisted in the United States Army.  He served with the Civil Air Patrol at the beginning of World War II\, escorting convoys and serving in the Pacific Theater on Guam\, Saipan and Iwo Jima.  Glen was awarded the Air Medal by President Truman\, recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for voluntary active duty in WWII flying over 700 hours over the Atlantic Ocean in Civilian aircraft against Axis Submarines off the Coast of Rehobeth Beach\, Delaware\, Good Conduct Medal\, Victory Medal\, Meritorious Unit Award\, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal\, American Theater Service Medal. \n PERSONAL:\nGlen married his wife\, Beatrice C. (Center) Cook on August 12\, 1950 at the Greenbush Reformed Church. Together they had three children: Glen\, David\, and Robert; and five grandchildren; April Diaz\, Kimber Enguita\, Dayna Smith\, Elisabeth McGeough\, and Glen W. Cook. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on June 23\, 1946\, Glen was owner/operator of Glen S. Cook & Son Commercial Photographers that his father started in 1913. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nGlen was a member of the Albany Executive Association for 45 years\, member of the James Ten Eyck Lodge #831 starting in 1960\, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.  He was also Most Wise Master in 1972 serving on the Albany Sovereign Consistory as commander-in-chief in 1983. \nGlen was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of East Greenbush-Nassau with a perfect attendance for 53 years\, member of the International Pilots Association known as the Quiet Birdmen\, member of Professional Photographers of America and was appointed as Elite 300 placing him in the top 5%\, created Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33 degree honorary member of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite\, member of the Royal Order of Scotland and joined York Rite College\, and a member of Wadsworth Lodge 417 F&AM of Albany. \nSadly\, on February 9\, 2004\, Glen passed away and was laid to rest at the East Greenbush Cemetery. \n

SUMMARY:February 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - John Sebastian Weaver
DESCRIPTION:John Sebastian Weaver\n1914-1977 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJohn Sebastian Weaver was born on September 25\, 1914 in Albany\, New York. He was the son of the late Charles and Susan (Webb) Weaver\, and brother to Frank\, Charles\, Sarah\, and Rita. \nEDUCATION:\nJohn grew up on Ida Hill\, Troy\, New York and received his education and graduated through the St. Francis School in Troy\, NY. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1944\, John enlisted in the United States Army\, where he was assigned to the Military Police Unit.  John was shipped overseas after basic training to Italy\, where he was reassigned to 167th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion-Battery D.  John later relocated to Germany shortly after and wounded in combat.  A little over a month\, John returned to duty and was eventually stationed in France\, Belgium\, Luxembourg\, Netherlands\, and Germany. During his time of service John was awarded the Purple Heart\, WWII Victory Metal\, the Combat Infantry Badge\, the Good Conduct WWII American Campaign Metal\, the European -African-Middle Eastern Service Metal\, and 3 Campaign Stars. \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his wife\, Bessie (Hobbs) on October 15\, 1936. Together they had ten children: Jack\, Tom\, Richard\, Robert\, Donald\, Nancy\, Judy\, Jerry\, Larry\, and Pat; and twenty-three grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, John was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal doing Security.  A few years later he joined the State Work Force as a Bridgetender on the Congress Street Bridge in Troy under the New York State Department of Transportation. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, John became the House Chairman of the Emerald Athletic Club\, a member of the Jolly Rogers for over 20 years\, was instrumental in organizing the 1st Troy Flag Day Parade which was celebrated for over 50 years\, a lifelong supporter of the Troy Democratic Party\, and was involved as an Alderman for the 18th Ward. \nSadly\, on November 4\, 1977\, John passed away and was laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery\, Troy\, New York. \n

DESCRIPTION:December 2024\nWarren J. Winne\, Sr. \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nWarren J. Winne\, Sr. was born on February 17\,1931 at the Brady Memorial Hospital in Albany\, New York. He was the son of the late Lyman and Gladys (Sanford) Winne\, and the brother of Franklin\, Eugene\, Eileen\, and Dorothy. \nWarren grew up in Delmar\, New York where he attended the Bethlehem Central School District then later moving to East Greenbush\, New York where he continued his education in the East Greenbush School District\, leaving school to serve his country at the age of 17. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1948\, Warren enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from May 3\, 1948 until March 19\, 1952 as a Corporal. \nPERSONAL:\nWarren married his wife\, Mary A. (Rossello) Winne on September 21\, 1952 in Rensselaer\, New York at St. John’s Church. Together they had four children: Carol\, Sandra\, Colleen\, and Warren Jr: Grandchildren: Ashley\, CJ\, and Kristen as well as many great grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, Warren was employed by Johns Manville Company as a pipe insulator and construction worker from 1952 until 1970. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Warren enjoyed hunting\, fishing\, member of the Asbestos Union No. 40\, volunteer Fireman with Clinton Heights Fire Department\, member of Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231\, (where in 1962 he received a membership award for 10 years of service)\, volunteer for the East Greenbush Girls Softball organization as an Umpire and helped with field maintenance.  Where later the East Greenbush Girls Softball field was named and dedicated in his honor. \nSadly\, on May 17\, 1970\, Warren passed away and was laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery\, Rensselaer\, New York.

He was the son of the late Harold and Frances (Eschbach)Wilson\, and the brother of Miriam\, Dorothy\, Gertrude\, Harriet\, Harold\, and Peggy. \nKenneth grew up in Hudson\, New York and later moved to the city of Rensselaer and attended the Van Rensselaer High School from 1938 to 1941.  Kenneth then settled down in East Greenbush\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1942\, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for three years achieving the rank of Corporal as a Heavy Machine Gunner\, during which time he was stationed in Naples-Foggia\, Rome-Arno\, Southern France.  Kenneth throughout his time of service had earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal\, Good Conduct Medal\, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. \nPERSONAL:\nKenneth married his wife\, Mary (Cornell) on October 8\, 1949 in Rensselaer\, New York. Together they had three children: Karen\, Keith\, Diane; four grandchildren: Gregory\, Laura\, Zachary\, Alexandra. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, Kenneth was employed by the United States Postal Service. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Kenneth enjoyed camping\, gardening and reading.  Kenneth also took time to coach baseball and softball for East Greenbush Little League\, East Greenbush Girls Softball League\, and East Greenbush Babe Ruth. \nSadly\, on November 30\, 1995\, Kenneth passed away and was laid to rest at New Rural Cemetery in East Greenbush\, New York.

He served during the Vietnam War receiving the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; 2 O/S Bars; Sharpshooter Badge Rifle M16; Expert Badge Hand Grenade. \nPERSONAL:\nMichael married his wife\, Kathleen A. (Agostine) DeBonis on May 4\, 1973 in Troy\, New York. Together they had two children: The late Michael and Lindsay DeBonis; Brother-in-law to: Dominic Mancino\, Mary Finelli\, Fran Agostine and Jean Holmes; Survived by several nieces and nephews. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1972\, Michael continued his employment with the Watervliet Arsenal for over 20 years. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Michael enjoyed spending time hunting\, darts\, enjoyed playing a mean game of corks and the comradery with fellow members of CRAB Club\, Emerald Club\, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the American Legion. \nSadly\, on March 22\, 2005\, Michael passed away.

He was the son of Paul “Skip” and Doris (Baird) Felts\, and the brother of Paul. \nEDUCATION:\n John grew up on Second Avenue\, Rensselaer and received his education through the Rensselaer Public School System. \nHISTORY:\nJohn enlisted in the United States Navy in Rensselaer\, New York in 1965 during the Vietnam War and served on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk.  He was honorably discharged and awarded the National Defense Service Medal\, Navy Unit Commendation with 1 Bronze Star\, Vietnam Service Medal with 6 Bronze Stars\, Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devise. \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his wife\, Kash (Kathryn) on June 26\, 1999 in Wynantskill\, New York. Together they had five children: Larissa Anne\, Andrea\, Yolanda\, John and Jessica; eight grandchildren: Kamic\, Kase\, Mackenzie\, Allysa\, Zachary\, Kyler\, Connor and Sean Paul; and one great-grandchild: Noah. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nJohn was employed by New York State Office of General Services\, with his final years at the Department of Transportation at the Rensselaer shop\, retiring in 2008. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, John enjoyed spending time motorcycle riding\, traveling\, listening to music\, feeding and watching birds and woodland creatures\, big and small\, teasing\, teaching and helping nephews\, cousins and all those that he met and bartending at the Watervliet Ukrainian Cultural Center. \nSadly\, on September 16\, 2023\, John Passed Away. \n  \n

He was the son of the late Walter B. and Gladys (Lawrence) Yetman\, and the brother of the late Francis and his identical twin\, David Yetman. \nEDUCATION:\n Donald grew up in Little Compton\, Rhode Island and received his education and graduated through the Our Lady of Victory Academy in Plattsburgh\, New York then proceeded to North Carolina University and Cornell University where he majored in Business. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1962\, Donald enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for six years achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant\, during which time he was stationed in Korea\, Fort Benning\, Georgia\, Fort Bragg\, North Carolina and Fort Jackson\, South Carolina where he graduated from the Army Administration School. He would later serve for 23 years with the National Guard as a First Sergeant.  Within that time Donald received certification of having successfully completed the prescribed course of instruction for the Intelligence Analyst\, U.S. Army Recruiting Command Certificate of Achievement and in September 21\, 1989 received The State of New York Certificate of Service. \nPERSONAL:\nDonald married his wife\, Ann Ellen (Bernier) on September 17\, 1966 in Plattsburgh\, New York at the Our Lady of Victory Church. He was honorably discharged as a Chief Yeoman Acting on April 30\, 1948. For his service\, William was a warded the Navy Occupation Service Medal\, the American Campaign Medal\, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal\, the WWII Victory Medal\, the Korean Service Medal\, the Armed Forces Service Medal\, the Korean Defense Service Medal\, the Naval Reserve Medal\, the Presidential Unit Citation and the United Nations Service Medal. \nDonald Kelly served his country in the United States Army from August 20\, 1946 until he was honorably discharged as Private First Class on January 13\, 1948.  For his service\, Donald was awarded the WWII Victory Medal\, and the Army Occupation Medal with Japan clasp.  In 1949\, Donald enlisted in the United States Navy\, retiring honorably as a Radioman Petty Officer First Class on September 2\, 1969. For his service\, Donald was awarded a letter of appreciation\, a letter of Commendation\, and the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. \nCharles James Kelly served his country in the United States Navy from May 29\, 1951 until he was honorably discharged as a Seaman on August 13\, 1954. For his service\, Charles was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. \nRobert Kelly served his country in the United States Air Force from the year 1953 until he was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant on August 31\, 1973. Together they had two children: Michael\, and Carmen; four grandchildren: Frank\, Joanna\, Michael\, and Jennifer. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nFrank was employed by American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady in the early 50’s\, and later employed by GE in Waterford\, where he was a chief shop steward for 16 years\, retiring in 1983. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nFrank was a member and president in 1951 of the Italian Community Center in Troy and member of the Ciccarelli-Rae-Agars and Bevivino Veterans Post in Troy\, and communicant of St. William’s Church in Troy.  He was also a leader of Union 339\, IUE. \nSadly\, on January 25\, 1990\, Frank Passed Away.

DESCRIPTION:HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN\nMay 2024\nCarmen J. Ciccarelli \n \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nCarmen J. Ciccarelli was born on February 26\, 1922 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of Michael and Angeline (Pitaniello) Ciccarelli\, and the brother of Frank\, Alphonso\, and Vito Ciccarelli. \nEDUCATION:\n Carmen grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through the Troy Public School System up to his Junior year when he left to help support the family. \nHISTORY:\nOn November 17\, 1938\, Carmen enlisted in the Troy National Guard in Troy\, New York. \nPERSONAL:\nCarmen was a proud first-generation Italian American Citizen\, where his family resided at 7 Havermans Avenue\, Troy New York which is just a few doors away from the Crab Garrison 1954.  At the age of 16 with the prospects of war looming\, Carmen lied about his age and enlisted in the National Guard. The Guard Unit was located at the Troy Armory on 15th Street. \nCarmen was assigned to the 27th infantry Division\, 105th Regiment\, 1st Battalion\, Company D. Company D was made-up of machine gun squads.  Staff Sergeant Ciccarelli was a Company D machine gun squad leader.  The 105th 1st Battalion was made up of many Troy residents. \nOn December 7th 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and war was declared.  The 27th Division was immediately mobilized\, receiving additional training at Fort McClellan\, Alabama and in early March 1942 the 105th Regiment 1st Battalion boarded the Steamship Aquitania for the crossing to Honolulu to bolster Hawaiian defenses. \nIn June 1944 the 27th Division was ordered to support the Marines in taking Saipan\, the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands.  This was planned as part of our island-hopping strategy to get closer to Japan so that long-range bombers could attack Japan’s home islands. \nOn July 7th as it looked like the US would secure the Island\, thousands of Japanese emerged overwhelming the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 105th.  Carmen bravely stayed at his machine gun fighting off the Japanese\, where he was later severely wounded.  When the US forces recovered and fought off the attack Carmen was located.  Sadly\, on July 12\, 1944\, Carmen was killed in action.  He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for is actions.

He was trained as a Shipfitter\, and served aboard the USS Baltimore (CA-68)\, the USS Lowe (DE-325)\, the USS Sierra (AD-18)\, and the USS Jason (AR-8). On September 2\, 1971\, with the rank of Shipfitter First Class\, Bill was honorably retired from the United States Navy at San Diego\, California\, after twenty years of faithful service. For his honorable service\, he received the Good Conduct Medal (Fifth Award)\, the National Defense Service Medal\, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. \nPERSONAL:\nBill married his wife\, Patricia (Pitcher) on October 25\, 1952 in Troy\, New York. Together they had four children: Beth\, Colleen\, Thomas and Patricia Ann; six grandchildren: Matthew\, Jason\, Amanda\, Christopher\, Jonathan and Diane; and twelve great-grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his retirement from the Navy\, Bill continued to support his family through his employment with McKinney Steel Fabrications in Albany\, New York\, where he worked as a fitter/welder until his retirement in 1983. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family camping\, taking cruises\, and surf fishing. \nSadly\, on November 22\, 2023\, Bill passed away. \n

He was the only son born to Francis and Lela (Blanchard) Moore. \nEDUCATION:\nJoseph grew up in Benton Harbor\, Michigan and St. Louis\, Missouri\, before his family relocated to East Greenbush\, New York in the early 1920’s. He went on to attend Columbia High School for a short time. \nHISTORY:\nOn April 7\, 1944\, Joseph was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. Dix\, New Jersey. At Fort Dix\, he began his training as a rifleman and was eventually assigned to Company G\, Second Battalion\, 71st Infantry Regiment\, which consisted of three battalions\, and was part of the 44th Infantry Division. In September 1944\, Joseph departed the United States with the 44th Division for the European Theatre\, where he would spend the next eleven months. On October 26\, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class\, Joseph was honorably discharged from the United States Army at Fort Sill\, Oklahoma. For his honorable service\, he received the Bronze Star Medal\, the Combat Infantryman Badge\, the Presidential Unit Citation\, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars\, the Army Occupation Medal with Germany clasp\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the World War II Victory Medal\, and Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL:\nJoseph married his loving wife\, Ethel (McGeough) in Albany\, New York prior to being inducted into the United States Army. Together they had four children: Elizabeth\, Lela\, Francis and Ethel\, and grandchildren: Vincent\, Jeffrey\, Greg\, James\, Diane\, Kathleen\, Vincent and Michael. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAlso prior to entering the military\, Joseph was employed by B.F. Goodrich in Albany\, New York\, where he worked for thirteen years\, and went on to become the service station manager. After returning to civilian and married life\, Joseph supported his family by returning to work for B.F. Goodrich. He went on to retire from there in 1972 after 42 years of employment. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJoseph was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton Heights\, and was an active member of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post #1231. He was the son of Joseph and Alexcina (Charbonneau) Cancilla\, and the brother of Katherine\, Josephine\, Marie\, Helen and James. \nEDUCATION:\nPasquale grew up in Troy\, New York where he attended and graduated from Catholic Central High School. \nHISTORY:\nOn December 13\, 1941\, Pasquale enlisted in the United States Navy in Albany\, New York\, and on June 1\, 1944 he reported to duty aboard the USS William Seiverling (DE-441)\, a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort. As a member of the crew of the USS William Seiverling\, Pasquale participated in the invasions of Luzon-P.I.\, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. On November 3\, 1945\, with the rank of Yeoman Third Class\, Pasquale was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. For his honorable service\, he received the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars\, the American Campaign Medal\, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Silver Service Star\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the Navy Occupation Medal with Asia clasp\, the WWII Victory Medal and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL: \nOn February 7\, 1942\, Pasquale married his wife\, Elizabeth Danaher in Troy\, New York. Together they had six children: Elizabeth\, Barbara\, Mary Lou\, Janice\, Joseph and Patrick\, 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nThroughout the years\, Pasquale was employed by the Troy YMCA\, the Rensselaer Boys Club\, and finally Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute\, where he retired from the shipping and receiving department. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nPasquale was an original volunteer on the USS Slater and a member of the Destroyer Escort Historical Foundation. He was a former communicant\, usher and Eucharistic minister at St. Patrick’s Church in Troy. He was also a past leader and member of the organizing committee for Boy Scouts\, a manager for Babe Ruth baseball\, a member of the Tibbits Cadets\, the VFW in Troy\, and an at large member of the American Legion. Pasquale enjoyed bowling\, however his greatest love was spending time with his family. \nSadly\, on November 20\, 2009\, Pasquale passed away.

He was the son of Arthur P. and Mary Ellen (Lattin) Plog\, and the brother of Ellen\, Arthur\, Charles and Edward. \nEDUCATION:\nJames grew up in Schenectady\, New York where he received his education through the Schenectady Public School System. \nHISTORY:\nOn June 6\, 1944\, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Albany\, New York. He served in the Pacific Theater and participated in the Occupation of Japan as a Mortar Crewman and Rifleman. On August 19\, 1946\, with the rank of Private First Class\, James was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune\, North Carolina. For his honorable service\, he received the Good Conduct Medal\, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal\, the World War II Victory Medal\, Rifle Marksmanship Badge and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL:\nOn October 25\, 1947\, James married his wife\, Dorothy Ely in Bennington\, Vermont before they moved to Cobleskill\, New York while James was studying agriculture. Together they had three loving children: Paula\, James\, Jr. and Keith; grandchildren: Saara\, Amanda\, Kristine\, Myles\, the late Rebecca\, and ten great-grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his time in the Marine Corps\, James became a herdsman and farm manager for the Vanderbilt family in Williamstown\, Massachusetts. Throughout the years\, James and his family owned their own dairy farm. They started with a Jersey farm and then later moved to a larger Holstein farm in Schaghticoke\, New York. After selling his Holstein herd\, James went to work for GE Silicones in Waterford\, New York\, from which he retired from in 1990. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJames was a life member of the American Legion\, VFW\, and Marine Corps League Detachment in Troy. He always enjoyed marching in the Uncle Sam’s Flag Day Parade and several other parades in the area. In his spare time\, James enjoyed golfing\, fishing\, metal detecting\, using his computer\, learning how to play the piano and World War II books and documentaries. James’ greatest love was spending time with his family and his beloved German Shepard\, Helga. \nSadly\, on April 17\, 2023\, James passed away.

He finished basic training and then attended a 70-week training course on NIKE Radar and Computer Repair at Redstone Arsenal\, Alabama\, and went on to serve as a NIKE Track Radar Repairer in Korea. On April 7\, 1977\, with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class\, Roger was honorable discharged from the United States Army. For his honorable service\, he received the National Defense Service Medal\, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar\, and Marksmanship Badge with Grenade Bar. \nPERSONAL:\nRoger raised his two sons\, Daniel and Dustin\, in Averill Park where he lived and grew up on land that his family owned for generations. On August 4\, 1994\, Roger married his wife\, Ann Colaneri\, in Troy\, New York. Through his marriage with Ann\, he gained two more children: Angela and Kyle. Roger’s family continued to grow to include his loving grandchildren: Lauren\, Jillian\, Jarod\, Lilly\, Anakin\, Asher and the late Daniel\, Jr. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his time in the Army\, Roger worked for Teledyne Gurley in Troy\, New York before beginning his employment with CSX Transportation\, where he gained a work family which he considered to be his “brothers” at the railroad. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRoger enjoyed life to the fullest\, having no regrets\, and created many memories with his family and friends. He was a great storyteller of his life experiences and had an easygoing nature. Roger liked to fish and spend time with his family including his cherished grandchildren and his loyal companion\, Lucky. \nSadly\, on July 3\, 2012\, Roger passed away.

DESCRIPTION:Richard L. Butterfield\n1945-2022 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nRichard “Rick” L. Butterfield was born on April 25\, 1945 in Mansfield\, Ohio. He was the son of Richard and Shirley (Larkin) Butterfield\, and the brother of Sharon and Rodney. \nEDUCATION:\nAs a child\, Rick’s family moved to Averill Park\, New York where he attended Averill Park High School\, and then went on to attend The State University of New York where he received his bachelor’s degree. \nHISTORY:\nOn September 30\, 1963\, Rick enlisted in the United States Army in Albany\, New York. He was commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduation from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning\, Georgia in March 1965 and sent to Vietnam as a Pathfinder Team Leader\, 11th Pathfinders 1st Cav. Division. He saw combat in the battles at LZ X-Ray\, LZ Columbus and LZ Albany-Ia Drang Valley\, where he and his team directed helicopter resupply and medical evacuation and rescue missions. It was here that he was wounded and did not leave his team until all other wounded soldiers were removed from the battlefield. Rick served his second tour in Vietnam in 1968 as Captain and company commander of E Company\, 2nd Battalion\, 506 Infantry\, 101st Airborne. His company conducted many combat operations. After recovering from injuries at Camp Zama\, Japan he returned to Vietnam and served as Team Commander with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Green Berets assigned to MACV-SOG. Missions from his unit were classified. \nOn February 10\, 1970\, Rick was honorably discharged from the United States Army. For his honorable service\, he was awarded many personal awards which include the Legion of Merit\, Purple Heart\, Meritorious Service Medal\, Air Medal\, Army Commendation Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal\, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal\, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (6th Award)\, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2nd Award)\, Army Service Ribbon\, Parachute Badge\, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award)\, Army Good Conduct Medal\, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award)\, Combat Infantryman Badge\, Master Parachutist Badge\, Special Forces Tab\, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palms\, and Vietnam Special Forces Jump Wings. After serving on active duty\, Rick served in the New York Army National Guard as a company commander\, Battalion Commander 2nd of the 105th Infantry\, and as a Commander of the 1st Brigade\, 42nd Infantry Division. Rick was breveted to the rank of Brigadier General upon his retirement in 1995. \n PERSONAL:\nOn July 27\, 2020\, Rick married his wife\, Cathy (Bullis) in Flagler County\, Florida. He has three loving children: Lori\, Hayden and the late Eric; and seven grandchildren: Emma\, Robert\, Grace\, Kasha\, Zoe\, Hayden and Roan. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his years of service\, Rick spent 35 years the New York State Police\, serving from 1970 to 2006. There he received certification at the Canine Handlers Basic School with his K-9 partner Frey who was trained in explosives detection. Rick moved into undercover work as an investigator with CNET and the BCI\, and also spent time as a Firearms Instructor\, Rifle Sharpshooter\, member of the Underwater Recovery Team and was the Police Benevolent Association Delegate\, Troop G. After retiring from the NYS Police\, Rick joined the Warren County Sheriff’s Office as Marine Patrol on Lake George and then was cross designated to go back undercover to work on a Task Force with NYS Police CNET where he again received commendation for his undercover work. Rick was awarded the NYS Conspicuous Service Medal\, the NYS Military Commendation Medal\, the NYS Aid to Civil Authorities Medal (2nd Award)\, the Long and Faithful Service Award (25 years)\, and was the third recipient of the Rev. Francis A. Kelley Home Town Hero Award in 2016. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRick was the Commodore (1997) and a lifetime member of the Castleton Boat Club\, lifetime member of the Nassau Sportsmen’s Club\, past board member of Lebanon Valley Speedway and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Troy. He was a member of the Renegade Pigs Motorcycle Club and enjoyed their annual Christmas visit to St. Margaret’s Center wearing his Santa hat. \nRick loved to work on and drive cars and motorcycles\, and enjoyed riding his Harley cross country. He completed and received his GED in 1970 while serving. Richard was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class on October 21\, 1970. For his honorable service\, he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal\, National Defense Service Medal\, the Expert M16 and Sharpshooter M14. \nPERSONAL:\nOn April 3\, 1971\, Richard married his wife\, Christine (Hogan) at St. Rita’s Church in Cohoes\, New York. Together they had three loving children: Kimberly\, Richard and Thomas; four grandchildren: Kyle\, Kayeleigh\, Violet and Brayden; and several nieces and nephews. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nRichard worked for GE in Schenectady\, New York as a machinist for 40 years until he retired on August 1\, 2010. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRichard was an active member of the community and loved spending time with his family\, especially during the holidays and traveling for family vacations. He was a member of the Cohoes Rod & Gun Club\, American Legion Ruane Post 476\, Cohoes Moose Club and the Cohoes-Waterford Elks Lodge #1317. For many years\, Richard volunteered at the St. Rita’s Church annual bazaar and the Cohoes Rod & Gun Club’s annual kids fishing contest at Van Schaick Island Pond. He was the brother of Shirley\, Charles\, Lydia\, Eleanor and Frank. \nEDUCATION:\nJohn was a graduate of Maple High School\, before going on to serve his country. \nHISTORY:\nOn August 28\, 1969\, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Albany\, New York and served during the Vietnam War. He served as a special radio operator with the Electronic Warfare Company\, 2nd Radio Battalion\, where he received extensive training\, including a 47-week Burmese Language Course\, and a 20-week Radio Communication Technology Course. John was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on August 27\, 1973. For his honorable service\, John received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. \nPERSONAL:\nOn October 8\, 1983\, John married his wife\, Linda (Jewett) at the Castleton Fire House. Together they had three loving children: Beth\, Jason and Melanie; grandchildren: Justin\, Jordan\, Abby\, Alexa and Aliana; and great-grandchild Caynon. He resided in Nassau\, New York with his loving family. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nJohn was employed by GE Plastics in Selkirk for 40 years before he retired. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJohn was a big family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his free time\, he loved to go fishing\, camping and hunting\, and his favorite getaway at the Adirondack Gateway RV Resort. John also taught bow hunting and rifle courses as a hunting education and safety instructor. He was the son of Theodore and Marion (Persons) Shields\, and had one sister\, Marie\, and one brother\, Clinton. \nEDUCATION:\nDonald received his education through the Sidney Central School District and lived with his parents in Harpersfield\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nOn September 7\, 1951\, Donald enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Albany\, New York. He served with the 7th Marines\, 1st Marine Division as an infantryman in Korea. During a battle on October 4\, 1952\, Donald was wounded in action. After he recovered\, Donald returned to the front lines\, and on February 13\, 1953 was once again wounded in action. \nOn September 6\, 1954\, Donald was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Corporal. For his honorable service\, Donald was awarded the Purple Heart Medal with one Gold Star\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the Korean Service Medal with three Service Stars\, the United Nations Service Medal\, the National Defense Service Medal\, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. \nPERSONAL:\nOn April 12\, 1953\, Donald married his wife\, Jacquelin (Logan) in Sidney\, New York. Together they had four loving children: Gary\, Sharon\, Patricia and Penny. They went on to relocate to Castleton\, New York\, where they raised their family. Their family eventually expanded to include 6 grandchildren: Michael\, Christie\, Christopher\, Kelly\, Chantel and Ian. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nBefore his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps\, Donald worked as a farmhand on a dairy farm in Unadilla\, New York. After his service\, Donald went back to working as a farmhand\, until he began his career as a truck driver with Mobil Oil Co.\, so that he could support his family. He retired from there after 33 years of employment. Donald also worked as a building inspector for the Town of Schodack for over 16 years\, and served on the town’s planning and zoning boards. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nDonald was a member of the Peter Andrews Memorial VFW post in Castleton\, a member of the Exxon/Mobil retirees club of Albany\, a communicant of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and a past Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family and friends\, especially traveling and camping in his free time. Parrow\, Sr. was born on October 3\, 1954 in Troy\, New York to James and Lois (Evans) Parrow\, Sr.\, and was the brother of James\, Jr. \nEDUCATION:\nMichael resided in Troy\, New York with his family and attended Sacred Heart School\, Troy Public School 16 and later graduated from LaSalle Institute in 1973. \nHISTORY:\nOn June 30\, 1973\, Michael enlisted in the United States Army in Albany\, New York. He received his basic training\, and then went on to attend Military Police School before being assigned to United States Army Europe and Africa as an MP with the 529th MP Co HQ. Michael was honorably discharged from the United States Army with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class on June 23\, 1976 at Fort Dix\, New Jersey. For his service\, Michael was awarded the National Defense Service Medal\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the Expert Marksman Badge with Grenade Bar\, the Marksman Badge with .45 Cal Bar and Pistol Bar and the Sharpshooter Badge with M-16 Bar. \nPERSONAL:\nOn October 6\, 1979\, Michael married his wife\, Susan Carpentier at St. Bonaventure Church in Speigletown\, New York. Together they had three loving children: Michael\, Jr.\, Joshua and Alison\, and grandchildren: Remi and Maddox. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nMichael began his civilian career in law enforcement when he joined the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department after returning to civilian life. After seven proud years with the Sheriff’s Department\, Michael began his employment with the Troy Police Department in 1983. Throughout his career\, Michael served as everything from a patrolman to evidence technician. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and assigned to the Detective Bureau in 2005\, where he spent the remainder of his career until his retirement in 2018. Some of his many accomplishments with the Troy Police Department include the Silver Shield and the John J. Givney “Officer of the Year” award. \nIn addition to working for the Police Department\, Michael also served as the Rensselaer County Health Department’s medicolegal death investigator from January 7\, 2002 until his passing. Michael was a pillar of the County’s Medical Examiner’s Office program and a founding father of the way the program functions today. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nMichael was always an active member of his community and making a difference on people’s lives. In his spare time\, he loved assisting in local youth sports\, whether it was  Lansingburgh Little League or Pop Warner Football\, he was there coaching\, running chains\, administering or simply providing rides to and from practice. DESCRIPTION:Proclamation Honoring the Plunkett Family \nWHEREAS\,         Rensselaer County owes a great debt to the men and women of our loyal Armed Forces who so bravely fought to preserve our American heritage; and \nWHEREAS\,         We must never forget our veterans whose determined spirit led us to victory and gave us freedom\, peace and unity; and \nWHEREAS\,         It is consistent with the duty of this Legislative Body to recognize the contributions of the citizens of our county and on behalf of the residents of Rensselaer County\, we remember with deepest respect and admiration the life and career of George F. Plunkett\, Jr.\, John J. Plunkett\, Charles W. Plunkett\, Sr.\, James E. Plunkett\, Thomas J. Plunkett\, William P. Plunkett\, Sr. and Elizabeth A. Plunkett who unselfishly served their Country in various branches of the United States military; and \nWHEREAS\,         George F. Plunkett\, Jr. served his country in the United States Army from May 3\, 1946 until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal on September 23\, 1947. For his service\, George was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Honorable Service Lapel Button; and \nWHEREAS\,         John J. Plunkett served his country in the United States Army from November 21\, 1950 until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 14\, 1952. For his service\, John was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany clasp; and \nWHEREAS\,         Charles W. Plunkett\, Sr. served his country in the United States Marine Corps from April 18\, 1951 until he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on April 17\, 1954. For his service\, Charles was awarded the Korean Service Medal\, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal; and \nWHEREAS\,         James E. Plunkett served his country in the United States Army from January 7\, 1954 until he was honorably discharged as a Specialist Third Class on January 6\, 1956. For his service\, James was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; and \nWHEREAS\,         Thomas J. Plunkett served his country in the United States Army from January 27\, 1958 until he was honorably retired as a Sergeant First Class on February 28\, 1981. For his service\, Thomas was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal\, the National Defense Service Medal\, the Vietnam Campaign Medal\, the Army Commendation Medal\, Overseas Bars (2)\, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award) and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar; and \nWHEREAS\,         William P. He was assigned to the 36th Infantry Division as a rifleman\, and participated in many battles in the Mediterranean and European Theater Campaigns. John was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class on August 28\, 1945 from the United States Army at Fort Dix\, New Jersey. For his service\, John was awarded the Bronze Star Medal\, the Purple Heart Medal\, the Combat Infantry Badge\, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Arrowhead\, the American Defense Service Medal\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the World War II Victory Medal\, the Expert Marksmanship Badge with M-1 Rifle Bar and Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL:\nOn November 14\, 1945\, John married his wife\, Josephine Cancilla. Together they had three loving daughters: Joanne\, Joyce and Jackelyn\, and grandchildren: Trisha\, Christine\, Mark\, Bill\, Steven\, Karin\, Colleen and Brian. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nJohn worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. DESCRIPTION:Robert F. Vogt\n1936-2004 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nRobert F. Vogt was born on July 10\, 1936 in Troy\, NY to William and Helen (Knapp) Vogt. He was the brother of William Vogt who served in the U.S. Air Force. \nEDUCATION:\nRobert was born\, raised and lived in Troy\, New York for most of his life\, and attended Catholic Central High School\, Lansingburgh High School and LaSalle Institute. \nHISTORY:\nOn August 4\, 1953\, Robert enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in Albany\, New York\, and then headed to the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot\, Parris Island\, South Carolina where he received his basic training. After completing basic training\, Robert attended Airman School (Class P) at Marine Air Detachment\, Jacksonville\, Florida\, and then went on to receive his flight equipment course at the Naval Air Technical Training Unit in Lakehurst\, New Jersey. From there\, Robert went on to serve as a Basic Flight Equipmentman. Robert was honorably discharged with the rank of Private on November 15\, 1956 from the United States Marine Corps\, and for his service\, he received the National Defense Service Medal. \nPERSONAL:\nOn April 6\, 1958\, Robert married his wife Ann Cassino at St. Peter’s Church in Troy\, New York. Together they had four loving children: Robert\, Timothy\, Gary (deceased) and Patricia\, and 14 grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nRobert worked for many years at Bendix Corp. in Green Island\, New York as a machine operator in the friction materials division until he had to retire in 1985. He continued to work at HUDMO Valley Federal Credit Union\, where he previously served as President\, a member of the Board of Directors and later as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee\, a position that he held until his passing. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nHe was a retired member of the United Auto Workers Local #1508\, where he served for several years as the Recording Secretary\, a long-time member of the Friends of 112th Street and the American Legion Post #927 in Green Island\, a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church\, and a former Boy Scouts of America Leader for Pack 58.
