Welcome was born on April 18\, 1914 in Troy\, New York.  He grew up in Troy\, New York and later lived in Pico Rivera\, California.   He was the son of the late Joseph and Bridget (Daley) Welcome\, and brother to Charles\, Lena\, Ethel and Gertrude \nEDUCATION/HISTORY:\nAfter attending St. Jeans Baptiste School\, Troy New York\, James proudly enlisted in the United States Army on October 10\, 1940 until July 11\, 1945 and reenlisted on March 17\,1949 until his second separation from the United States Army on August 18\,1954 with the rank of Master Sergeant \nDuring an attack against the enemy\, the leader of the platoon of which Technical Sergeant Welcome was a member\, was seriously wounded and had to be evacuated.  Welcome immediately assumed command of the platoon.  Demonstrating outstanding courage\, repeatedly exposed himself to intense hostile fire to supervise the evacuation of the wounded.  Under his courageous leadership the platoon continued to press home its attack and seized the objective \nJames was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action\, World War II Pacific Campaign Medal\, 2 Bronze Stars\, American Defense Medal\, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal\, Philippine Liberation Ribbon\, Glider Badge\, Combat infantryman Badge\, Commendation Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal \nPERSONAL:\nJames married his wife\, Theresa Eva (Herold) Welcome in the year 1931\, in Las Angeles where he was employed as a meat cutter and went on to have two children: Carl and Mary Joan \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nSadly\, on June 2\, 1968\, James passed away and was laid to rest at the Resurrection Cemetery\, Montebello\, Los Angeles\, California \n

DESCRIPTION:  \nHONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN \nMarch 2026\nWilliam Charles Roy\n1947 – 2025 \n \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nWilliam Charles Roy was born on August 16\, 1947 in Cohoes\, New York.  He grew up in Waterford\, New York and later lived in Troy\, and Niskayuna\, New York.   He was the son of the late Charles and Eva (Gabriel) Roy\, and brother to Joseph and Mary Lou \nEDUCATION/HISTORY:\nAfter attending Shenendehowa Central School District\, William proudly enlisted in the United States Army on October 12\, 1966 during a pivotal moment in American History. He served with honor throughout the Vietnam era\, earning the National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars\, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device and the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar in recognition of his dedication and sacrifice \nPERSONAL:\nWilliam married his wife\, Dorthy (Butler) Roy on September 7\, 1966 in South Carolina.  Together they had three children: William\, Tracy\, and Nicole; and six grandchildren: Connor\, Devin\, Madison\, Mathew\, Cole and Sofie \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on October 10\, 1969\, William went to work for Freihofer’s Bakery in 1970\, from which he retired with pride in 1997 \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nOutside of work\, William embraced life with enthusiasm and simple pleasures.  He was an avid golfer\, bowler\, and fisherman – pastimes that reflected his love of camaraderie\, the outdoors\, and friendly competition \nWilliam was also a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV)\, organizations that aligned with his values of service\, heritage\, and community \nSadly\, on July 2\, 2025\, William passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville\, New York

DESCRIPTION:HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN \nFebruary 2026 \nNeil M. Manchester\n1927 – 2011 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nNeil M. Manchester was born on July 10\, 1927 in Hoosick Falls\, New York. He was the son of the late Martin and Millicent (Vincent) Manchester\, and brother to Edwin\, Hugh\, Lynn and Lynda \nEDUCATION/HISTORY:\nWhile attending high school\, Neil proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on July 31\, 1944 serving with the Seabees at the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd class until 1946.  Neil was awarded the American theatre medal\, Victory medal Asiatic-Pacific medal\, and Navy Unit Commendation \nPERSONAL:\nNeil married his wife\, Lois (Case) Manchester on February 11\, 1951 in Hoosick Falls\, New York.  Together they had three children: Amy\, Beth\, (the late) Gregory; and two grandchildren: (the late) Darel and Corey: and one great grandchild; Allie \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on June 2\, 1944.  Neil went on to carry out his promise to his mother by going back to high school and was a member of the first graduating class of 1947 of the “new” Berlin High School. \nAfter graduation Neil was employed as a Wholesale Florist for Seagrott’s Roses for 25 years.  He then ran the North Petersburgh Country Store for 15 years and retired from the Troy Housing Authority \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nNeil was a grand master of the Petersburg F & AM\, a member of the Taconic Valley American Legion Post #937\, a member of the Petersburg Fire Department\, Petersburg Baptist Church\, served as town justice from\, Chairman of the Board of Assessors\, Deputy Town Supervisor\, Town Supervisor\, Chairman Civic Council\, and a former Town Highway Supervisor. \nHe was co-founder with his cousin Roger on the Petersburgh Veterans Honor Roll Monument dedicated in November of 2007.  Up to the time of his passing\, Neil served as Town Veteran’s Service Officer.  Neil also loved to hunt and fish \nSadly\, on December 4\, 2011\, Neil passed away and was laid to rest at the Meadow Lawn Cemetery\, Petersburgh\, New York \n

He was the son of the late Sergio and Rosaria (LaGrasta) DeGenero\, and brother to Ignatius\, Carrado\, Joseph\, Lucia\, Martha\, Rosaria\, Angeline and Anna \nEDUCATION:\nAngelo grew up in Troy\, and received his education through the Troy Central School District \nHISTORY:\nAfter graduating from Troy High School\, Angelo proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on April 7\, 1952 in Albany\, New York\, where he was assigned to the U.S.S Markav (AD-21)\, was a Hamul-class destroyer tender named for Markab\, the third-brightest star in the constellation Pegasus where he carried out his duties as Produce Man.  Angelo later went on to be awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal \nPERSONAL:\nAngelo married his wife\, Dolores (Dobert) DeGenero on June 11\, 1960 at the St. Jude Apostle Church in Wynantskill\, New York.  Together they had five children: Dolores\, Maureen\, Jeanne\, Jacqueline and David; and ten grandchildren: Jaime\, Jessica\, Jeremy\, Patrick\, Kathryn\, Christopher\, Kevin\, Theodore\, Brian and David: and nine great grandchildren \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on April 6\, 1956\, Angelo was later employed at the A&P supermarket in Wynantskill\, New York for 20 years and later as the Produce Manager and store clerk for Price Chopper for 20 years \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nAngelo loved spending time with his family.  He shared a special bond with his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed his bowling leagues at Hi-Way Recreation in Wynantskill\, and more recently\, at Hilltop Bowl in Speigletown.  He was an avid golfer at Burden Lake Country Club\, and often looked forward to Tuesday night family scrambles that were held there. \nAngelo also enjoyed traveling to Florida and Las Vegas.  He cherished his Wednesday family pizza nights\, Sunday morning breakfasts\, and special moments with his great grandchildren.  Angelo created a strong family legacy that will live on in all of them \nSadly\, on March 31\, 2025\, Angelo passed away and was laid to rest at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy\, New York

SUMMARY:December 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - Chester J. Carknard
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nChester J. Carknard\n1924 – 1944 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nChester J. Carknard was born on May 28\, 1924 in Valley Falls\, New York. He was the son of Chester and Eva (Carr) Carknard\, and brother to Rita\, Stephen\, Vincent\, Leroy\, Shirley\, Mari and Harold \nEDUCATION:\nChester (Chet) grew up in the Village of Valley Falls\, and received his education through the Valley Falls School \nPERSONAL:\nChet had two years of high school\, and he was also a truck driver for the Mohawk Paper Mill in Cohoes.  He was also believed to be a part-time worker at Janet Stover Weber’s dad’s garage in the village of Valley Falls.  Chet enlisted in the Army Air Corps in October of 1942.  His enlistment record state he was a semi-skilled technician and repairman \nHISTORY:\nAfter about a year of training\, Chester (Chet) was sent overseas in November\, 1943.  He was in the 8th Air Force\, the 100th Bomb Group\, the 351st Bomb Squadron.  The 8th is known as “The Mighty 8th”\, the 100th as “the Bloody Hundredth”.  The 351st flew B-17 bombers\, “Flying Fortresses”.  It was based at Thorpe Abbotts\, in Norfolk\, England\, about 100 miles Northeast of London \nBeginning in March 1944\, Chet flew about ten missions.  The crew was led by 2nd Lieutenant Lucius Lacy\, so the plane was named the “Luscious Lucy”.  Chet began to fly just after “The Big Week” in February\, where the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Corps cooperated in intensive bombing of German aircraft factories \nChet was a Technical Sergeant.  He had a very demanding position\, as he had two jobs: to take care of any operational problems while the plane was in the air\, and to be the top turret gunner while the plane was in a bombing run\, which placed his post in the middle of the plane\, facing backwards in a small turret in the top of the plane.  They flew daylight missions over Germany \nFollowing these raids\, the 351st\, including Chester\, were awarded the Air Medal and two Oak Leaf Clusters.  The Air Medal was awarded for “meritorious service”\, the clusters represented additional acts meriting the Air Medal.  Chester did not want anyone to know about his medals \nSadly\, on April 11\, 1944\, Chester J. Carknard\, 19 years of age\, of Valley Falls was killed in action during the European Theater of War and was laid to rest at Cambridge American Cemetery\, Cambridge\, England

SUMMARY:November 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - James A. Schaeffer
DESCRIPTION:James A. Schaeffer\n1943-2022 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJames A. Schaeffer was born on May 24\, 1943 in Pine Grove\, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Herbert. and Ethal (Reed Rumberger) Schaeffer\, and brother to Lenord and Rodney \nEDUCATION:\nJames grew up in Pine Grove\, Pennsylvania\, and received his education and graduated through the Pine Grove Central High School \nHISTORY:\nIn 1961\, James enlisted in the United States Army.  For his action against the enemy in Vietnam\, with no disregard for his own safety\, and for being the last man of his company to withdraw into the night\, he was awarded the Bronze Medal of Honor for Vietnam bravery.  A citation which accompanied the Medal read: “For the action on 24 April 1966.  While on Operation Birmingham\, Sgt. James A. Schaeffer RA13730638 Of Company C\, 1st Bn. 2nd Inf.\, 1st Division\, did so distinguish himself while under hostile fire\, by leading his rifle squad without hesitation toward the enemy.  With disregard to his own welfare\, he crawled within 5 meters of the intrenched enemy and killed two Viet Cong Snipers.  He was also the last man to withdraw into the night perimeter” \n PERSONAL:\nJames married his wife\, Patricia (Geiger) Schaeffer on April 10\, 1982 in Brunswick\, New York. Together they had seven children: Stacy\, Tamara\, James Jr.\, Cynthia\, Robert\, Susan and Deborah; and many grandchildren \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on October 14\, 1982\, James was the ROTC Instructor at Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie\, was employed at Albany RV as a RV Demonstration Technician \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJames was a member of the American Legion Post #1489 Wynantskill\, a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church and a volunteer at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany and Doors of Hope in West Sand Lake \nSadly\, on April 6\, 2022\, James passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery \n

He was the son of the late Albert and Jennie (Merola) Pasinella\, and brother to Joseph\, Anthony\, Tina\, Anna Rose\, and Caroline \nEDUCATION:\nDominic grew up in South Troy and later resided in Lansingburgh\, New York where he attended St. Mary’s School\, graduating from La Salle Institute\, then furthing his education at Hudson Valley Community College \nHISTORY:\nIn 1963\, Dominic enlisted in the United States Army\, during the Vietnam War in the Infantry holding the rank as Direct Crewman. Throughout his time in the Army\, Dominic received the Marksman Badge\, Good Conduct Medal\, and the National Defense Service Medal \nPERSONAL:\nDominic married his wife\, Carol (Moran) Pasinella on March 30\, 1968 at the Sacred Heart Church. Together they had four children: Dominic Jr. Stephen\, Kristen\, and Jeffrey; six grandchildren: Tyler\, Samantha\, Halee\, Gabriele\, Kyly and Adriana: two great grandchildren; Max and Lennon.  They all fondly called him Poppy \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, Dominic returned home and was employed at the Red Front Restaurant\, Behr-Manning Company\, was a part time painter\, later retiring from the Watervliet Arsenal after many years of service \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Dominic enjoyed watching Lansingburgh football games on Friday nights\, cooking (especially Sunday dinners)\, coffee club with his cousins and best friends\, taking walks\, watching his grandkids play sports\, and rooting for the Dodgers\, Yankees\, Rangers\, Giants\, and the Knicks \nDominic coached Lansingburgh Little League and Lansingburgh Independent\, kept the scorebook for the Lansingburgh Royals (all three levels).  Dominic was honored and inducted into the sports Hall of Fame from the Friends of 112th Street\, a member of the Italian Community Center\, and he was a faithful communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh \nSadly\, on November 8\, 2021\, Dominic passed away and was laid to rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery \n

DESCRIPTION:September 2025\nAndrew J. Carras\n1924-2017 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nAndrew J. Carras was born on August 6\, 1924 in Albany\, New York. He was the son of the late George and Helen (Tenzar) Carras\, and brother to James\, William\, Catherine\, Peter\, John\, Francis\, Mary\, and Vincent \nEDUCATION:\nAndrew grew up in Albany\, New York\, and attended Phillip Livingston High School\, leaving before graduation to join the Navy.  He lied about his age so that he could serve\, his was not yet 18 years old.   Andrew later resided in East Greenbush\, New York \nHISTORY:\nIn 1941\, Andrew enlisted in the United States Navy.  Andrew was assigned to the destroyer USS Madison DD425 for the duration of the war.  He was the ships cook third class.  During his tour of duty\, the USS Madison was involved in a variety of conflicts.  Andrew was awarded the European African Eastern Area Campaign Medal\, European African Eastern Campaign Ribbon\, American Area Campaign Medal\, European African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon\, and the World War II Victory Ribbon \n PERSONAL:\nAndrew married his wife\, Lois (Kearney) Carras on May 8\, 1946 in Albany. Together they had three children: Helen\, Linda\, Kennedy\, and Lillian; three grandchildren: Elizabeth\, Melissa\, and Brian; Four great grandchildren: Rachel\, Lauren\, Adam\, and Abigail; and one great great grandchild; Lincoln \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on November 18\, 1945\, Andrew became employed by Tobin Packing Company in West Albany\, New York and worked in various positions until the plant closed in 1980.   After his retirement from Tobin Packing\, Andrew started working for the Town of East Greenbush Water Department from 1980 until 1986\, when he retired \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nAndrew was a member of East Greenbush Fire Company\, and Melvin roads American Legion.  He served on the East Greenbush Zoning Board of Appeals and as an East Greenbush Committeeman.  He loved to travel with his wife and family\, traveling to almost all of the 50 states.  He also enjoyed fishing\, gardening\, golfing and spending time with family and friends \nSadly\, on January 28\, 2017\, Andrew passed away and was laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in East Greenbush\, New York

SUMMARY:August 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - John J. Zink
DESCRIPTION:John J. Zink\n1920-2000 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJohn J. Zink was born on November 14\, 1920 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late August and Rose (Cleary) Zink\, and brother to Leona \nEDUCATION:\nJohn was raised in South Troy\, and a graduate of St. Mary’s and Troy High School. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1943\, John enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in Troy\, New York\, where he was assigned to the rank of private first class\, where he held the position of a Machinist 2nd class\, and military specialties of Machine Gunner 604 during World War II and a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima \nA fierce and bloody conflict was fought between United States and Japan from February 19th to March 26th\, 1945.  It was a 36-day battle for control of the island of Iwo Jima.  The battle resulted in heavy casualties on both sides\, with the US Marines suffering some of their highest losses of the war\, ultimately\, securing victory \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his late wife\, Justine (Francese) Zink at the St. Mary’s Church in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Phillips) McLaughlin\, and brother to Joseph\, Patrick\, and Gary McLaughlin \nEDUCATION:\nWilliam was raised and educated Troy\, New York\, Class of “63” \nHISTORY:\nIn 1969\, William enlisted with the United States Navy Reserve in Troy\, New York\, where he was assigned to the rank of Hospitalman (HN3) and went on to be educated and trained in: Counter Insurgency in which you are preparing personnel to effectively respond to insurgencies\, which are organized uprisings that aim to overthrow a government or control territory. This training focuses on understanding the tactics and strategies of insurgent groups\, as well as developing skills in various aspects of COIN operations\, and (SE. E) Senior Enlisted Academy military education lectures on Compound and Weapons Orientation \nDuring his time in the Navy he was awarded National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal \nPERSONAL:\nWilliam had one child: Brett; and two grandchildren: Tyler\, and Anthony. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on September 19\, 1971 and returned home\, and went on to become a fireman with the Troy Fire Department for 26 years\, retiring as Captain in 1995.  William loved fishing and bird watching with his grandchildren and going on long rides with the love of his life\, the late\, Sandy Seney.  He was an outstanding baseball player and coach\, he loved playing ball with his son \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nWilliam followed in his father footsteps by learning the rank Fire Captain.  He was always willing to help a neighbor\, and took care of his brother\, Joseph\, at the end of his life \nSadly\, on April 3\, 2014\, William passed away and was laid to rest at the Gerald B.H. Later residing in Lansingburgh\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1952\, Bill enlisted with the United States Army\, where he was assigned to the rank of Staff Sergeant and Medic while stationed in Korea\, 65th Infantry Regiment\, 3rd Division.  During his time in the Korean War he was awarded the Purple Heart (wounded twice)\, and the Bronze Star with Valor. \nPERSONAL:\nBill married his wife\, Maureen (Link) McDonough on July 2\, 1960 at the St. Frances deSales Catholic Church\, Troy\, New York. Together they had five children: Tim\, Kathy\, Kevin\, Sandy\, and Mark; and ten grandchildren; Mindy\, Amanda\, Molly\, Connor\, Jake\, Emily\, Tyler\, Patrick\, Molly\, and SioBhan. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on July 1\, 1960 returning from Korea\, Bill went to work for the Record Newspaper and enjoyed 45 years of employment\, retiring as the National Advertising manager.  He was active in the community by way of coaching Little League\, Independent Baseball. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nBill was a lifelong Communicant of St. Augustine’s Church\, member of the Troy Kiwanis\, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick\, Veterans of Lansingburgh\, founding member of the Friends of 112th Street where he was elected into the Athletic Hall of Fame\, named Veteran of the Year in 2014\, and a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan. \nSadly\, on February 8\, 2024\, Bill passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery. \n

He was the son of the late Myles Walsh and Irene (King) Hegarty\, and brother to Arlene\, and the late Annina. \nEDUCATION:\nTom grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through Troy High School\, and went on to continue his education with the Command and General Staff College\, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  Tom later resided in Wynantskill and Brunswick\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1953\, Tom enlisted with the United States Army National Guard\, where he was assigned to the 105th Medical Command\, 27th Infantry Division. Tom earned numerous commendations including the New York State Long and Faithful Service Award\, NYS Recruiting Medal\, NYS Military Commendation Medal\, NYS Aid to Civil Authority Medal\, NYS Humane Service Medal\, Army Commendation Medal\, and two Meritorious Service Medals\, prestigiously retiring with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel. \nPERSONAL:\nTom married his beloved wife\, Diane E. (Gailey) Walsh on September 8\, 1957. Together they had five children: Kathleen\, Thomas\, Michael\, Jennifer\, and Mary; and ten grandchildren; Jenét\, Tiana\, Mathew\, Patrick\, Shannon\, Melissa\, Skyler\, Ethan\, Hunter\, and Austin; and many great grandchildren\, nieces and nephews. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army National Guard on March 11\, 1981\, Tom was employed by Watervliet Arsenal and retired as Chief of Manufacturing where he oversaw 1300 employees and was the National Vice President of the Federal Managers Association\, Wells Communications\, and Rensselaer County Jail in the Maintenance Department.  Tom served as the Brunswick Town Supervisor before being elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature\, where he served his constituents in Legislative District No. 3 (Towns of Brunswick\, Schaghticoke and Pittstown)\, with pride for 5 terms. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nTom was instrumental in the Medal of Honor Memorial called the “Hall of Heroes”.  He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus\, Council 10990\, Elks Club\, VFW\, and loved going to Bolton Landing in the Summer and Florida in the winter. \nSadly\, on December 25\, 2024\, Tom passed away and was laid to rest at Eagle Mills Cemetery with Military Honors.

He was the son of the late Glen S. and Elizabeth (Radstrom) Cook\, and brother to Helen\, Marian\, and Lillian. \nEDUCATION:\nGlen grew up in East Greenbush\, New York\, and received his education and graduated through the Albany Academy\, class of 1936\, and later resided in East Greenbush\, New York. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1942\, Glen enlisted in the United States Army.  He served with the Civil Air Patrol at the beginning of World War II\, escorting convoys and serving in the Pacific Theater on Guam\, Saipan and Iwo Jima.  Glen was awarded the Air Medal by President Truman\, recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for voluntary active duty in WWII flying over 700 hours over the Atlantic Ocean in Civilian aircraft against Axis Submarines off the Coast of Rehobeth Beach\, Delaware\, Good Conduct Medal\, Victory Medal\, Meritorious Unit Award\, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal\, American Theater Service Medal. \n PERSONAL:\nGlen married his wife\, Beatrice C. (Center) Cook on August 12\, 1950 at the Greenbush Reformed Church. Together they had three children: Glen\, David\, and Robert; and five grandchildren; April Diaz\, Kimber Enguita\, Dayna Smith\, Elisabeth McGeough\, and Glen W. Cook. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on June 23\, 1946\, Glen was owner/operator of Glen S. Cook & Son Commercial Photographers that his father started in 1913. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nGlen was a member of the Albany Executive Association for 45 years\, member of the James Ten Eyck Lodge #831 starting in 1960\, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.  He was also Most Wise Master in 1972 serving on the Albany Sovereign Consistory as commander-in-chief in 1983. \nGlen was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of East Greenbush-Nassau with a perfect attendance for 53 years\, member of the International Pilots Association known as the Quiet Birdmen\, member of Professional Photographers of America and was appointed as Elite 300 placing him in the top 5%\, created Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33 degree honorary member of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite\, member of the Royal Order of Scotland and joined York Rite College\, and a member of Wadsworth Lodge 417 F&AM of Albany. \nSadly\, on February 9\, 2004\, Glen passed away and was laid to rest at the East Greenbush Cemetery. \n

He was the son of the late Charles and Susan (Webb) Weaver\, and brother to Frank\, Charles\, Sarah\, and Rita. \nEDUCATION:\nJohn grew up on Ida Hill\, Troy\, New York and received his education and graduated through the St. Francis School in Troy\, NY. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1944\, John enlisted in the United States Army\, where he was assigned to the Military Police Unit.  John was shipped overseas after basic training to Italy\, where he was reassigned to 167th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion-Battery D.  John later relocated to Germany shortly after and wounded in combat.  A little over a month\, John returned to duty and was eventually stationed in France\, Belgium\, Luxembourg\, Netherlands\, and Germany. During his time of service John was awarded the Purple Heart\, WWII Victory Metal\, the Combat Infantry Badge\, the Good Conduct WWII American Campaign Metal\, the European -African-Middle Eastern Service Metal\, and 3 Campaign Stars. \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his wife\, Bessie (Hobbs) on October 15\, 1936. Together they had ten children: Jack\, Tom\, Richard\, Robert\, Donald\, Nancy\, Judy\, Jerry\, Larry\, and Pat; and twenty-three grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, John was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal doing Security.  A few years later he joined the State Work Force as a Bridgetender on the Congress Street Bridge in Troy under the New York State Department of Transportation. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, John became the House Chairman of the Emerald Athletic Club\, a member of the Jolly Rogers for over 20 years\, was instrumental in organizing the 1st Troy Flag Day Parade which was celebrated for over 50 years\, a lifelong supporter of the Troy Democratic Party\, and was involved as an Alderman for the 18th Ward. \nSadly\, on November 4\, 1977\, John passed away and was laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery\, Troy\, New York. \n

(Rossello) Winne on September 21\, 1952 in Rensselaer\, New York at St. John’s Church. Together they had four children: Carol\, Sandra\, Colleen\, and Warren Jr: Grandchildren: Ashley\, CJ\, and Kristen as well as many great grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, Warren was employed by Johns Manville Company as a pipe insulator and construction worker from 1952 until 1970. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Warren enjoyed hunting\, fishing\, member of the Asbestos Union No. 40\, volunteer Fireman with Clinton Heights Fire Department\, member of Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231\, (where in 1962 he received a membership award for 10 years of service)\, volunteer for the East Greenbush Girls Softball organization as an Umpire and helped with field maintenance.  Where later the East Greenbush Girls Softball field was named and dedicated in his honor. \nSadly\, on May 17\, 1970\, Warren passed away and was laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery\, Rensselaer\, New York.

He was the son of the late Walter B. and Gladys (Lawrence) Yetman\, and the brother of the late Francis and his identical twin\, David Yetman. \nEDUCATION:\n Donald grew up in Little Compton\, Rhode Island and received his education and graduated through the Our Lady of Victory Academy in Plattsburgh\, New York then proceeded to North Carolina University and Cornell University where he majored in Business. \nHISTORY:\nIn 1962\, Donald enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for six years achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant\, during which time he was stationed in Korea\, Fort Benning\, Georgia\, Fort Bragg\, North Carolina and Fort Jackson\, South Carolina where he graduated from the Army Administration School. He would later serve for 23 years with the National Guard as a First Sergeant.  Within that time Donald received certification of having successfully completed the prescribed course of instruction for the Intelligence Analyst\, U.S. Army Recruiting Command Certificate of Achievement and in September 21\, 1989 received The State of New York Certificate of Service. \nPERSONAL:\nDonald married his wife\, Ann Ellen (Bernier) on September 17\, 1966 in Plattsburgh\, New York at the Our Lady of Victory Church. Together they had three children: Robert\, Aaron and Peter; three grandchildren: Ashlee\, Eli and Calvin and several great grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the Army\, Donald was employed by the United States Postal Service and was appointed postmaster of the East Chatham Post Office\, Slingerlands Post Office and retired from the East Greenbush Post Office after 23 years and simultaneously retired from the National Guard after 23 years. For his service\, James was awarded the WWII Victory Medal\, the American Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star\, the American Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. \nFrancis Kelly served his country in the United States Navy from December 5\, 1940\, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it came under attack. He was honorably discharged as a Chief Yeoman Acting on April 30\, 1948. For his service\, Francis was awarded the WWII Victory Medal\, the American Campaign Medal\, the American Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star\, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star\, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. \nWilliam Kelly served his country in the United States Navy Reserve from March 20\, 1944.  He served on active duty during WWII and the Korean War.  On March 13\, 1971\, Chief Petty Officer Kelly honorably retired from the United States Navy Reserve. For his service\, William was a warded the Navy Occupation Service Medal\, the American Campaign Medal\, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal\, the WWII Victory Medal\, the Korean Service Medal\, the Armed Forces Service Medal\, the Korean Defense Service Medal\, the Naval Reserve Medal\, the Presidential Unit Citation and the United Nations Service Medal. \nDonald Kelly served his country in the United States Army from August 20\, 1946 until he was honorably discharged as Private First Class on January 13\, 1948.  For his service\, Donald was awarded the WWII Victory Medal\, and the Army Occupation Medal with Japan clasp.  In 1949\, Donald enlisted in the United States Navy\, retiring honorably as a Radioman Petty Officer First Class on September 2\, 1969. For his service\, Donald was awarded a letter of appreciation\, a letter of Commendation\, and the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. \nCharles James Kelly served his country in the United States Navy from May 29\, 1951 until he was honorably discharged as a Seaman on August 13\, 1954. For his service\, Charles was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. \nRobert Kelly served his country in the United States Air Force from the year 1953 until he was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant on August 31\, 1973. Together they had two children: Michael\, and Carmen; four grandchildren: Frank\, Joanna\, Michael\, and Jennifer. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nFrank was employed by American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady in the early 50’s\, and later employed by GE in Waterford\, where he was a chief shop steward for 16 years\, retiring in 1983. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nFrank was a member and president in 1951 of the Italian Community Center in Troy and member of the Ciccarelli-Rae-Agars and Bevivino Veterans Post in Troy\, and communicant of St. William’s Church in Troy.  He was also a leader of Union 339\, IUE. \nSadly\, on January 25\, 1990\, Frank Passed Away.

DESCRIPTION:HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN\nMay 2024\nCarmen J. Ciccarelli \n \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nCarmen J. Ciccarelli was born on February 26\, 1922 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of Michael and Angeline (Pitaniello) Ciccarelli\, and the brother of Frank\, Alphonso\, and Vito Ciccarelli. \nEDUCATION:\n Carmen grew up in Troy\, New York and received his education through the Troy Public School System up to his Junior year when he left to help support the family. \nHISTORY:\nOn November 17\, 1938\, Carmen enlisted in the Troy National Guard in Troy\, New York. \nPERSONAL:\nCarmen was a proud first-generation Italian American Citizen\, where his family resided at 7 Havermans Avenue\, Troy New York which is just a few doors away from the Crab Garrison 1954.  At the age of 16 with the prospects of war looming\, Carmen lied about his age and enlisted in the National Guard. The Guard Unit was located at the Troy Armory on 15th Street. \nCarmen was assigned to the 27th infantry Division\, 105th Regiment\, 1st Battalion\, Company D. Company D was made-up of machine gun squads.  Staff Sergeant Ciccarelli was a Company D machine gun squad leader.  The 105th 1st Battalion was made up of many Troy residents. \nOn December 7th 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and war was declared.  The 27th Division was immediately mobilized\, receiving additional training at Fort McClellan\, Alabama and in early March 1942 the 105th Regiment 1st Battalion boarded the Steamship Aquitania for the crossing to Honolulu to bolster Hawaiian defenses. \nIn June 1944 the 27th Division was ordered to support the Marines in taking Saipan\, the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands.  This was planned as part of our island-hopping strategy to get closer to Japan so that long-range bombers could attack Japan’s home islands. \nOn July 7th as it looked like the US would secure the Island\, thousands of Japanese emerged overwhelming the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 105th.  Carmen bravely stayed at his machine gun fighting off the Japanese\, where he was later severely wounded.  When the US forces recovered and fought off the attack Carmen was located.  Sadly\, on July 12\, 1944\, Carmen was killed in action.  He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for is actions.

He was trained as a Shipfitter\, and served aboard the USS Baltimore (CA-68)\, the USS Lowe (DE-325)\, the USS Sierra (AD-18)\, and the USS Jason (AR-8). On September 2\, 1971\, with the rank of Shipfitter First Class\, Bill was honorably retired from the United States Navy at San Diego\, California\, after twenty years of faithful service. For his honorable service\, he received the Good Conduct Medal (Fifth Award)\, the National Defense Service Medal\, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. \nPERSONAL:\nBill married his wife\, Patricia (Pitcher) on October 25\, 1952 in Troy\, New York. Together they had four children: Beth\, Colleen\, Thomas and Patricia Ann; six grandchildren: Matthew\, Jason\, Amanda\, Christopher\, Jonathan and Diane; and twelve great-grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his retirement from the Navy\, Bill continued to support his family through his employment with McKinney Steel Fabrications in Albany\, New York\, where he worked as a fitter/welder until his retirement in 1983. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family camping\, taking cruises\, and surf fishing. \nSadly\, on November 22\, 2023\, Bill passed away. \n

He was the only son born to Francis and Lela (Blanchard) Moore. \nEDUCATION:\nJoseph grew up in Benton Harbor\, Michigan and St. Louis\, Missouri\, before his family relocated to East Greenbush\, New York in the early 1920’s. He went on to attend Columbia High School for a short time. \nHISTORY:\nOn April 7\, 1944\, Joseph was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. Dix\, New Jersey. At Fort Dix\, he began his training as a rifleman and was eventually assigned to Company G\, Second Battalion\, 71st Infantry Regiment\, which consisted of three battalions\, and was part of the 44th Infantry Division. In September 1944\, Joseph departed the United States with the 44th Division for the European Theatre\, where he would spend the next eleven months. On October 26\, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class\, Joseph was honorably discharged from the United States Army at Fort Sill\, Oklahoma. For his honorable service\, he received the Bronze Star Medal\, the Combat Infantryman Badge\, the Presidential Unit Citation\, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars\, the Army Occupation Medal with Germany clasp\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the World War II Victory Medal\, and Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL:\nJoseph married his loving wife\, Ethel (McGeough) in Albany\, New York prior to being inducted into the United States Army. Together they had four children: Elizabeth\, Lela\, Francis and Ethel\, and grandchildren: Vincent\, Jeffrey\, Greg\, James\, Diane\, Kathleen\, Vincent and Michael. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAlso prior to entering the military\, Joseph was employed by B.F. Goodrich in Albany\, New York\, where he worked for thirteen years\, and went on to become the service station manager. After returning to civilian and married life\, Joseph supported his family by returning to work for B.F. Goodrich. He went on to retire from there in 1972 after 42 years of employment. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJoseph was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton Heights\, and was an active member of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post #1231. He was the son of Joseph and Alexcina (Charbonneau) Cancilla\, and the brother of Katherine\, Josephine\, Marie\, Helen and James. \nEDUCATION:\nPasquale grew up in Troy\, New York where he attended and graduated from Catholic Central High School. \nHISTORY:\nOn December 13\, 1941\, Pasquale enlisted in the United States Navy in Albany\, New York\, and on June 1\, 1944 he reported to duty aboard the USS William Seiverling (DE-441)\, a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort. As a member of the crew of the USS William Seiverling\, Pasquale participated in the invasions of Luzon-P.I.\, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. On November 3\, 1945\, with the rank of Yeoman Third Class\, Pasquale was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. For his honorable service\, he received the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars\, the American Campaign Medal\, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Silver Service Star\, the Good Conduct Medal\, the Navy Occupation Medal with Asia clasp\, the WWII Victory Medal and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL: \nOn February 7\, 1942\, Pasquale married his wife\, Elizabeth Danaher in Troy\, New York. Together they had six children: Elizabeth\, Barbara\, Mary Lou\, Janice\, Joseph and Patrick\, 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nThroughout the years\, Pasquale was employed by the Troy YMCA\, the Rensselaer Boys Club\, and finally Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute\, where he retired from the shipping and receiving department. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nPasquale was an original volunteer on the USS Slater and a member of the Destroyer Escort Historical Foundation. He was a former communicant\, usher and Eucharistic minister at St. Patrick’s Church in Troy. He was also a past leader and member of the organizing committee for Boy Scouts\, a manager for Babe Ruth baseball\, a member of the Tibbits Cadets\, the VFW in Troy\, and an at large member of the American Legion. Pasquale enjoyed bowling\, however his greatest love was spending time with his family. \nSadly\, on November 20\, 2009\, Pasquale passed away.

On August 19\, 1946\, with the rank of Private First Class\, James was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune\, North Carolina. For his honorable service\, he received the Good Conduct Medal\, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal\, the World War II Victory Medal\, Rifle Marksmanship Badge and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. \nPERSONAL:\nOn October 25\, 1947\, James married his wife\, Dorothy Ely in Bennington\, Vermont before they moved to Cobleskill\, New York while James was studying agriculture. Together they had three loving children: Paula\, James\, Jr. and Keith; grandchildren: Saara\, Amanda\, Kristine\, Myles\, the late Rebecca\, and ten great-grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his time in the Marine Corps\, James became a herdsman and farm manager for the Vanderbilt family in Williamstown\, Massachusetts. Throughout the years\, James and his family owned their own dairy farm. They started with a Jersey farm and then later moved to a larger Holstein farm in Schaghticoke\, New York. After selling his Holstein herd\, James went to work for GE Silicones in Waterford\, New York\, from which he retired from in 1990. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nJames was a life member of the American Legion\, VFW\, and Marine Corps League Detachment in Troy. He always enjoyed marching in the Uncle Sam’s Flag Day Parade and several other parades in the area. In his spare time\, James enjoyed golfing\, fishing\, metal detecting\, using his computer\, learning how to play the piano and World War II books and documentaries. James’ greatest love was spending time with his family and his beloved German Shepard\, Helga. \nSadly\, on April 17\, 2023\, James passed away.

DESCRIPTION:HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN \nDECEMBER 2023\nRoger W. Hogle\n1955-2012 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nRoger W. Hogle was born on October 2\, 1955 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of Robert and Annabell (Brand) Hogle\, and the brother of Susan and Sharon. \nEDUCATION:\nRoger grew up and lived his entire life in Averill Park\, New York where he attended Averill Park High School. \nHISTORY:\nAfter graduating high school\, Roger enlisted in the United States Army in Albany\, New York on April 8\, 1974. He finished basic training and then attended a 70-week training course on NIKE Radar and Computer Repair at Redstone Arsenal\, Alabama\, and went on to serve as a NIKE Track Radar Repairer in Korea. On April 7\, 1977\, with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class\, Roger was honorable discharged from the United States Army. For his honorable service\, he received the National Defense Service Medal\, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar\, and Marksmanship Badge with Grenade Bar. \nPERSONAL:\nRoger raised his two sons\, Daniel and Dustin\, in Averill Park where he lived and grew up on land that his family owned for generations. On August 4\, 1994\, Roger married his wife\, Ann Colaneri\, in Troy\, New York. Through his marriage with Ann\, he gained two more children: Angela and Kyle. Roger’s family continued to grow to include his loving grandchildren: Lauren\, Jillian\, Jarod\, Lilly\, Anakin\, Asher and the late Daniel\, Jr. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his time in the Army\, Roger worked for Teledyne Gurley in Troy\, New York before beginning his employment with CSX Transportation\, where he gained a work family which he considered to be his “brothers” at the railroad. \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRoger enjoyed life to the fullest\, having no regrets\, and created many memories with his family and friends. He was a great storyteller of his life experiences and had an easygoing nature. Roger liked to fish and spend time with his family including his cherished grandchildren and his loyal companion\, Lucky. \nSadly\, on July 3\, 2012\, Roger passed away.
