DESCRIPTION:  \nHONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN \nMarch 2026\nWilliam Charles Roy\n1947 – 2025 \n \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nWilliam Charles Roy was born on August 16\, 1947 in Cohoes\, New York.  He grew up in Waterford\, New York and later lived in Troy\, and Niskayuna\, New York.   He was the son of the late Charles and Eva (Gabriel) Roy\, and brother to Joseph and Mary Lou \nEDUCATION/HISTORY:\nAfter attending Shenendehowa Central School District\, William proudly enlisted in the United States Army on October 12\, 1966 during a pivotal moment in American History. He served with honor throughout the Vietnam era\, earning the National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars\, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device and the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar in recognition of his dedication and sacrifice \nPERSONAL:\nWilliam married his wife\, Dorthy (Butler) Roy on September 7\, 1966 in South Carolina.  Together they had three children: William\, Tracy\, and Nicole; and six grandchildren: Connor\, Devin\, Madison\, Mathew\, Cole and Sofie \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on October 10\, 1969\, William went to work for Freihofer’s Bakery in 1970\, from which he retired with pride in 1997 \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nOutside of work\, William embraced life with enthusiasm and simple pleasures.  He was an avid golfer\, bowler\, and fisherman – pastimes that reflected his love of camaraderie\, the outdoors\, and friendly competition \nWilliam was also a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV)\, organizations that aligned with his values of service\, heritage\, and community \nSadly\, on July 2\, 2025\, William passed away and was laid to rest at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville\, New York
