DESCRIPTION:  \n \nHONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN \nSeptember 2024\nJohn Francis Felts\n1946-2023 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nJohn Francis Felts was born on August 29\, 1946 in Albany\, New York. He was the son of Paul “Skip” and Doris (Baird) Felts\, and the brother of Paul. \nEDUCATION:\n John grew up on Second Avenue\, Rensselaer and received his education through the Rensselaer Public School System. \nHISTORY:\nJohn enlisted in the United States Navy in Rensselaer\, New York in 1965 during the Vietnam War and served on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk.  He was honorably discharged and awarded the National Defense Service Medal\, Navy Unit Commendation with 1 Bronze Star\, Vietnam Service Medal with 6 Bronze Stars\, Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devise. \nPERSONAL:\nJohn married his wife\, Kash (Kathryn) on June 26\, 1999 in Wynantskill\, New York. Together they had five children: Larissa Anne\, Andrea\, Yolanda\, John and Jessica; eight grandchildren: Kamic\, Kase\, Mackenzie\, Allysa\, Zachary\, Kyler\, Connor and Sean Paul; and one great-grandchild: Noah. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nJohn was employed by New York State Office of General Services\, with his final years at the Department of Transportation at the Rensselaer shop\, retiring in 2008. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nIn his spare time\, John enjoyed spending time motorcycle riding\, traveling\, listening to music\, feeding and watching birds and woodland creatures\, big and small\, teasing\, teaching and helping nephews\, cousins and all those that he met and bartending at the Watervliet Ukrainian Cultural Center. \nSadly\, on September 16\, 2023\, John Passed Away. \n  \n
