DESCRIPTION:  \nAUSTIN A. WILCOX\n1948-2019 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nAustin A. Wilcox was born on July 5\, 1948 in Troy\, New York to the late Florence Jones Wilcox and Ambrose Wilcox. \nEDUCATION:\nAustin attended schools in the Troy school district growing up\, and later graduated from SUNY Empire State College in 2000. \nHISTORY:\nAustin entered in the United States Army on August 10\, 1965 in Amsterdam\, New York.  He served in Vietnam from 1966-1968\, and in Afghanistan from 2004-2005. Austin was honorable discharged from the Army on January 31\, 1992 and then volunteered for recall in 2004. On September 9\, 2005\, he was honorable discharged again from the Army. Austin served as a professional Supply Logistician for 22 years. Austin received many awards during his time in the Army\, which included the Army Service Ribbon\, Overseas Service Ribbon\, Defense Meritorious Service Medal\, Army Commendation Medal\, Army Good Conduct Medal\, National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal\, Armed Forced Reserve Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. \nPERSONAL:\nAustin is survived by his loving children; Lucille\, Denise\, Tanya\, Mario and Austin Wilcox II; his son-in-law’s Mario Dinelli and Pete Delcoro\, his grandchildren; Krissa\, Alexander\, Susan\, Maria and Samantha and his brother Richard Burdick. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nHe worked various jobs throughout the capital district. The last job that Austin had before he reenlisted in 2004 was at Educational Opportunity Center located in downtown Troy\, where he was a Business Services Coordinator with Hudson Valley Community College. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nAustin was a member of Paralyzed Veterans of American\, the VFW\, a life member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh and took part in many parades. He was a man who always put the needs of others first. During his free time\, Austin liked playing his harmonica and working in his wood shop.
