DESCRIPTION:DONALD JOHN KEELER\n1921-2005 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nDonald John Keeler was born on April 29\, 1921 in Troy\, New York to the late Wilbert and Alice (Teal) Keeler. He was the brother of Holman and Thelma. \nEDUCATION:\nHe attended schools in the Troy school district growing up. \nHISTORY:\nDonald enlisted in the United States Navy on December 10\, 1943 in Albany\, New York. He served in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. Donald was the proud recipient of the Victory Medal\, the American Theatre Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. On May 25\, 1946\, Donald was honorably discharge from the United States Navy. \nPERSONAL:\nOn December 24\, 1947\, Donald married his wife\, the late Joyce Bentley in Arlington\, Vermont. Together they have four children; Holly\, Enid\, Zane and Jay\, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom they loved dearly. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nThroughout the years\, Donald worked for W & LE Gurley Company and General Electric in Schenectady. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nDespite eventually becoming blind\, Donald was able to overcome this by staying active. He loved animals\, birds\, nature and especially spending time with his family. Donald had a pilot’s license for many years\, was a beekeeper and was a licensed ham radio operator.
