DESCRIPTION:Anthony A. Maier\n1924-2012 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nAnthony A. (Andy) Maier was born on September 2\, 1924 in Troy\, New York to the late Frank and Louise Schollhorn Maier.  Andy was the brother of Ernie Maier\, Paul Maier\, Helen Thomas\, Marie Kennedy\, and the late Dorthey Marschilok and Frances Yager. \nEDUCATION:\nAndy attended Troy Public Schools. \nHISTORY:\nAndy enlisted in the United States Army on February 22\, 1943\, in Albany\, New York.  Andy served during World War II as a Technician 5th Grade with the 313th Infantry Regiment 79th Infantry Division. Andy had a Military Occupation as a Truck driver\, Light 345. Andy served in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and the Battle at Normandy. He also took part in Central Europe\, Northern France\, and Rhineland Campaigns.  Andy was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal\, the European\, African\, Middle East Service Medal\, and Good Conduct Medal.  On December 18\, 1945\, Andy was honorably discharged from the Army. \nPERSONAL:\nAndy married his wife\, Helen Carroll Maier in 1955\, Troy\, New York.  Andy is the father of two sons; Stephen Maier\, and Honorable Christopher Maier.  Andy was also the grandfather of three grandchildren; Kristen\, Thomas and Eric Maier. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAndy was self-employed as a gifted remodeling contractor in the area for 50 years. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nAndy was a member of the St. Augustine church\, where he served as an usher for several years. Andy was a lifelong member of the Troy German Hall Association\, serving as president and board member\, founding member of Brunswick Elks\, member of the Lansingburgh Historical Society\, president and board member of the Lansingburgh Rotary\, board member of the Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club\, former president and member of the Veterans of Battle of the Bulge\, Hudson Valley Chapter. \nAndy was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Lansingburgh Rotary\, Frank W. Kennedy Memorial Award in 2014 from the Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club\, and was named Humanitarian of the Year in 1997 by the Uncle Sam Parade Committee. \n
