DESCRIPTION:ROBERT GORDON\, SR.\n1927-1988 \n \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nRobert Gordon\, Sr. was born on June 2\, 1927 in Troy\, New York to the late Edward and Roselyn O’Neil Gordon.  Robert was the brother of Edward Gordon\, Sr.\, Jerrold\, Arthur and Donald Gordon. \nEDUCATION:\nRobert attended Troy Public Schools. \nHISTORY:\nRobert enlisted in the United States Navy on April 5\, 1945\, serving with a rank of Fireman First Class.  During his time in the Navy\, Robert served on many vessels and stations; NRS\, Albany NY\, Naval Training Center\, Sampson\, NY\, TADCEN\, Camp Shoemaker\, California\, USS Vincennes\, and PSC LIDO BEACH\, Long Island\, NY.  Robert was the recipient of the American Theatre Medal\, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.  Robert was honorably discharged on August 1\, 1946. \nPERSONAL:\nRobert married his wife\, the former Joyce Roberts in December 1947\, Troy\, New York.  Robert is the father of six sons; William\, Gary\, Kevin\, John Gordon\, and the late Robert\, Jr. and Bruce Gordon; four daughters; Roselyn and Janice Gordon\, Kathleen Snyder\, and the late Cecelia Gordon.  Robert was also the grandfather of thirteen grandchildren and right great- grandchildren. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nRobert was employed in the heater core department of Ford Motor Co. in Green Island. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRobert was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks and a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. \nRobert was active in the Central Little League; and at their 1988 opening day ceremonies\, Robert was honored with the league’s Edgar Sousis Award.

Gordon\, Sr. and Joyce Roberts Gordon.  Robert was the brother of William Gordon\, Roselyn Panza\, Kathleen Snyder\, Janice Gordon\, Gary Gordon\, Kevin Gordon\, John Gordon and the late Bruce Gordon and Cecelia Weber. \nEDUCATION:\nRobert attended Troy High School\, class of 1966 and Siena College\, class of 1970. \nHISTORY:\nRobert enlisted in the United States Army on October 21\, 1970\, serving during the Vietnam War.  Robert became the proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal\, Combat Infantry Badge and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal\, 1 o/s Bar.  Robert was honorably discharged on April 18\, 1972.  After his honorable discharge\, Robert went on to serve with the National Guard\, where he retired in 2008. \nPERSONAL:\nOn August 25\, 1973\, Robert married his wife\, Patricia Howard Gordon in Tory\, New York.  Together they had one daughter\, Heather Gordon. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nRobert was employed with the New York State Department of Civil Service as a classification and payroll specialist\, retiring in 2003. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRobert was a 44 year member of the Troy Elks #141\, serving as past Exalted Ruler\, State Vice President and District Deputy.  He was also a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh.
