DESCRIPTION:HONOR-A-DECEASED-VETERAN\nAUGUST 2018 \nRONALD JOHN WELSH\n1957 – 2018 \n  \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nRonald John Welsh was born on August 23\, 1957 in Albany\, New York to the late Margaret Helen Welsh (Wickham).  Ronald was the brother of Christina Baker\, Margaret “Midge” Northrup\, Joseph Welsh and the late William Welsh and Kathleen Walker. \nEDUCATION:\nRonald graduated from Savannah High School\, class of 1977.  He then attended Cadre Instructor School where he graduated top of his class.  Ronald also attended United States Army Ranger Courses. \nHISTORY:\nRonald served in the United States Army and the National Guard from 1975-1997.  He saw active duty in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War and was a Squad Leader in Combat Military Police Operations.  Ronald was the proud recipient of many awards and medals; Good Conduct Medal\, Overseas Service Ribbon\, Army Service Ribbon\, Army Lapel Button\, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-16A1)\, 1st Class Qualification (Hand Grenade) Expert Badge\, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars\, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.  With over 21 years of service\, Ronald was honorably discharged in 1997. \nPERSONAL:\nRonald is survived by his wife of seventeen years\, Sandra Welsh; his children\, Rondene (Ernest Cannon\, Ronald John Welsh\, Jr.\, Jeffrey (Amy) Welsh and Jason Welsh; his grandchildren\, Ernest Cannon\, IV\, Nautica Cannon\, Ryan Cannon\, Krystal Cannon\, Joshua Cannon\, Audrey Welsh\, Amelia Welsh and Owen Welsh; and one great grandchild\, Genisus Cannon.  Ronald is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his feline babies\, Nicholas\, Cricket and Ranger. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nRonald was employed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)\, where he performed duties in Logistics to provide disaster relief all over the country.  He was also a 1983 Military Police\, 105th Patrol Supervisor in Troy\, New York. \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nRonald was a member of the Lansingburgh VFW and often assisted others in group therapy sessions. \nRonald’s cats were very near and dear to him.  He enjoyed toy collecting\, traveling\, camping\, collecting sports memorabilia\, antiquing\, gardening\, playing board games and spending time with his family.
