SUMMARY:July 2025 Honor A Deceased Veteran - William McLaughlin
DESCRIPTION:William McLaughlin\n1945-2014 \nFAMILY HISTORY:\nWilliam McLaughlin was born on August 19\, 1945 in Troy\, New York. He was the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Phillips) McLaughlin\, and brother to Joseph\, Patrick\, and Gary McLaughlin \nEDUCATION:\nWilliam was raised and educated Troy\, New York\, Class of “63” \nHISTORY:\nIn 1969\, William enlisted with the United States Navy Reserve in Troy\, New York\, where he was assigned to the rank of Hospitalman (HN3) and went on to be educated and trained in: Counter Insurgency in which you are preparing personnel to effectively respond to insurgencies\, which are organized uprisings that aim to overthrow a government or control territory. This training focuses on understanding the tactics and strategies of insurgent groups\, as well as developing skills in various aspects of COIN operations\, and (SE. E) Senior Enlisted Academy military education lectures on Compound and Weapons Orientation \nDuring his time in the Navy he was awarded National Defense Service Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal \nPERSONAL:\nWilliam had one child: Brett; and two grandchildren: Tyler\, and Anthony. \nWORK EXPERIENCE:\nAfter his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on September 19\, 1971 and returned home\, and went on to become a fireman with the Troy Fire Department for 26 years\, retiring as Captain in 1995.  William loved fishing and bird watching with his grandchildren and going on long rides with the love of his life\, the late\, Sandy Seney.  He was an outstanding baseball player and coach\, he loved playing ball with his son \n  \nCOMMUNITY ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS:\nWilliam followed in his father footsteps by learning the rank Fire Captain.  He was always willing to help a neighbor\, and took care of his brother\, Joseph\, at the end of his life \nSadly\, on April 3\, 2014\, William passed away and was laid to rest at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. \n
