LEGISLATURE COMMENDS RENSSELAER (RPI) FOR "LIGHTS ABOVE THE HUDSON"

TROY---The Rensselaer County Legislature recently applauded RPI's "Lights Above the Hudson" light show.  A resolution introduced by Troy legislator Peter Grimm noted, "In January, the City of Troy and points beyond were treated to a spectacular light show that underscored the unique architectural design of the EMPAC structure as a work of art."

The Rensselaer County Legislature commended RPI for commissioning such a community-wide celebration in "Lights Above the Hudson" and congratulated Jennifer Tipton for using her talent in producing such an exceptional light show highlighting EMPAC and Troy.

According to Grimm, "In addition to showcasing this singular building, "Lights Above the Hudson" was a celebration of and for Troy. The light show was appreciated by those approaching Troy and by those who live, work and recreate in the City."

"It was a welcome infusion of light during mid-winter," noted Grimm. "The colorful lights drew attention to Troy and is symbolic of all the illuminating things happening in our city."

Grimm, a member of the County Tourism Committee, said: "The RPI campus has long been a beacon on the hillside above downtown Troy. The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) will be yet another unique feature of Troy's landscape --- as well as a cultural draw to the community."

"I felt it was important for RPI to know we, as elected officials, welcome contributions such as EMPAC and "Lights" and I hope this resolution demonstrates our appreciation."
