PRESS RELEASE Legislature and eLot Planning Second Electronics Recycling Day The Rensselaer County Legislature and eLot are planning to host a second County Electronics Recycling Day this fall, as a follow-up to the first electronics recycling event which drew a very high turnout in March, Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher announced. The second electronics recycling day is expected to be held on a weekend during the second half of September and would again be held at the County Office Building in Troy, said Kelleher. The first electronics recycling day was the busiest ever conducted by eLot, a recycling company based in South Troy. Approximately 350 vehicles visited the first recycling day, which collected more than 50,000 pounds in recyclables. “This is great news, and we expect we will have a very high turnout for the second electronics recycling day,” said Legislator Laura Bauer, a member of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee. “We were very pleased with how the first electronics recycling day went and look forward to working with the Legislature to stage a second recycling day,” said eLot’s Pete Bindelglass. County residents will be able to dispose of unwanted electronics items including computers, stereos, televisions, radios, household appliances and other electronics items for free. There is expected to be a small charge for older, wood-paneled televisions. During the first recycling day, residents commented that they have encountered difficulty or expense in disposing of unwanted electronics items. On March 29, residents began lining up at 8:30 a.m., well before the start of the recycling day. “The turnout at the first recycling day was outstanding, and the County Office Building parking lot was filled with electronics and appliances. We are very happy to be partnering again with eLot this fall,” added Legislator Alex Shannon, who serves as chair of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee.
