PRESS RELEASE Legislature Recognizes Manor Employees for Response The Rensselaer County Legislature recognized employees of the Van Rensselaer Manor for their response to a holiday fire at the nursing home during the March 11 legislative meeting, Legislator Martin Reid announced. The quick response by the Manor employees to the December 21 protected other residents of the nursing home and prevented the facility from receiving any serious damage, Reid noted. Manor employees Jill LaValley and Michelle Recore were on hand at the March 11 legislative meeting to received copies of a resolution adopted in their honor. “The quick response by Jill and Michelle helped protect residents and also safeguarded the Manor. We thank them for their clear-headed action during an emergency situation,” said Reid. Social Services Commissioner John Beaudoin also praised the response by the Manor employees. Beaudoin noted that a number of Manor employees responded to the scene of the fire while off-duty, demonstrating their commitment to the residents of the facility. Also commended for their response was Mary Hernandez, Janice Guidilli, Barbara Nicholson, Janice Kaufman, Jennifer Goodermote, Margaret Catalfumo and Becky Jennings. A fire was started at the Van Rensselaer Manor on December 21 due to unauthorized smoking by a resident who was also utilizing oxygen. A fire ensued, resulting in the response by the employees. “Rensselaer County is fortunate to have many dedicated employees who care very much about the people they serve. That dedication is demonstrated by the response of the employees to the fire at the Manor,” said Legislator Stan Brownell, chair of the Legislature’s Aging Committee.
