PRESS RELEASE Legislature Majority Comments on Issues Involving Gov. Spitzer Members of the majority of the Rensselaer County Legislature today offered comments regarding serious allegations against Governor Eliot Spitzer. “These are serious allegations against the highest-ranking elected official in New York State, making it a sad day for our state. Our hearts go out the governor’s family during what is obviously a difficult time,” said Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher. “The governor is supposed to set an example for our state, and unfortunately he has damaged his reputation and the trust of the people of this state. It’s sad to see our state receiving attention for the governor’s scandal and the sooner we can move past this, the better,” said Vice Chairman Thomas Walsh Sr. “Obviously, if the allegations against Governor Spitzer are true, his resignation should be offered immediately. The people’s business is too important to be mired in a scandal of this nature, and we need to ensure state government stays focused on the needs of the residents of the Empire State,” said Legislator Martin Reid. “These are shocking allegations, and I am very disturbed by the news reports about the governor’s alleged conduct. I feel saddened about this incident and the disgrace that has been brought to the governor’s office,” said Legislator Alex Shannon. “It’s a profound disappointment. The governor promised the state so much when he ran for office in 2006, but now we have to deal with this bizarre scandal. The residents of the state deserve much better,” said Legislator Mike Stammel.
