Archie Sherman Honored for Service to Nassau Hose Co.

Archie Sherman was recently honored for his sixty years of service to the Nassau Hose Co. No. 1, with members of the company and Rensselaer County Legislator Alex Shannon joining to thank Sherman at a reception in his honor.

The Rensselaer County Legislature adopted a resolution commending Sherman for his sixty years of service. The resolution was sponsored by Shannon and Legislator Martin Reid and adopted unanimously at the February 12 legislative meeting.

“Archie Sherman has helped protect the lives of generations of Nassau residents and we owe him our sincere thanks and appreciation for his six decades of service to the community. He is a true friend to so many in Nassau,” said Shannon.

“I want to thank the members of the Nassau Hose Co. No. 1 for taking the time to recognize and thank Archie Sherman. Their efforts both for this event and for what they do everyday are definitely appreciated,” added Shannon.

In October 1947, Sherman became a member of the Nassau Hose Co. No. 1 and served as chief from 1968 to 1970. He has been recognized and awarded as the 1985-1986 Nassau Hose Co. Fireman of the Year Award, Schodack Fire Chief’s Association Dick Becker Award for Fireman of the Year in 2003 and the Dick Grogen Award from the Rensselaer Elks for community service.

Along with his service to the Nassau Hose Co., Sherman has also been a member of the fire police for fifteen years and was a charter member of the Nassau Rescue Squad in 1953 and served with the squad for 40 years.

Sherman is also known for his service to other community organizations in the village and surrounding areas for decades.

“Whenever the community has called, Archie Sherman has been there and been ready to help. He has a lifetime of giving and sharing and we appreciate his service and generosity,” said Legislator Martin Reid.
