PRESS RELEASE Legislators Seek Safety Review of State Rte. 7 in Hoosick Rensselaer County Legislators Lester Goodermote and Stan Brownell have filed a resolution seeking a safety review of a section of State Route 7 in the Potter Hill area of Hoosick following a series of serious motor vehicle accidents. In particular, Goodermote and Brownell said they would like the state to review the intersection of Route 7 and Spicer Road, where a number of the accidents have occurred. A fatal accident occurred on that stretch of road in just the past several weeks and there have been numerous other accidents in the past. Goodermote lives and operates two businesses in the area near the intersection of Route 7 and Spicer Road, and has observed a number of the accidents. He said residents living in the area and motorists who use the road have voiced their concerns about the safety of the road. “The people who travel this road or live nearby are worried about the frequency of serious auto accidents, and a state review would definitely help the situation. The state would have the ability to determine if there is a need for changes or improvements,” said Goodermote. The two legislators said they would like the state DOT to conduct a safety review and survey of the section of Route 7. Goodermote and Brownell said they are hopeful the survey can include a review of motorist speed, lighting conditions, the need for additional signage in the area, line of sight and other contributing factors. “Based on the number of accidents that have occurred, we believe a review is necessary and can very well help make this section of Route 7 safer and easier to travel. State Route 7 is a vital roadway in Rensselaer County and any improvements to safety will benefit thousands of our residents,” said Brownell. The resolution introduced by Goodermote and Brownell requesting a safety review of a section of Route 7 in the Potter Hill area will be considered at the February 12 legislative meeting.
