PRESS RELEASE NYS DOT to Install Deer Crossing Signs on Co. Rt. 142 The New York State Department of Transportation has agreed to install new deer crossing warning signs on State Route 142 in Brunswick following a request made by members of the Rensselaer County Legislature. The new deer crossing signs will be erected on State Route 142 in the vicinity of Vanderheyden Reservoir between Route 7 and Route 40. State DOT determined the signs were necessary after conducting a review of accidents between January 1, 2000 to October 31, 2007. The state indicated the signs will be installed sometime this year, depending on DOT workload. Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher initiated the request for the state DOT to review the safety conditions on Route 142 relating to deer. “We have heard from residents that deer often present a safety hazard in this area. Hopefully, these signs will help protect residents who travel the road,” said Kelleher. “We appreciate the attention by state DOT. Any steps to improve public safety are definitely welcomed by us,” added Legislator Ken Herrington.
