PRESS RELEASE Legislature Honors Doris Gauch for Service The Rensselaer County Legislature thanked Doris Gauch for her community service and commended her on the occasion of her 90th birthday at the March 11 legislative meeting, Legislator Martin Reid announced. Doris and her family became well-known for operating an appliance store in the 43 Mall in West Sand Lake for many years and for her ownership of dance schools. She was known for offering lessons to customers even if they did not have the finances to attend her school. Today, Doris still provides dance instruction at local nursing homes, including senior centers operated by the county. She received a Senior Service Award from Bishop Howard Hubbard for her service to seniors at area nursing homes. “Doris has a lifetime of giving and serving, and Rensselaer County is all the better for her dedication to her community. She truly cares about her neighbors and we look forward to her continued service to our county,” said Legislator Martin Reid, who sponsored the resolution honoring Doris. “Doris is one of those seniors who keeps on giving and giving. She has our thanks and congratulations on being such a youthful 90 years of age,” added Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher.
